Is anyone planning on going to see Disney's new film, John Carter? My Dad told me about it a few weeks ago and we had quite a discussion about how we didn't think it would be too successful. It seems to just be thrown together with little thought of an original storyline. One comment on a review site noted that it was a mix between Star Wars, Prince of Persia and Narnia - you can see that's probably quite accurate just by looking at the film posters! :P

Disney announced a couple of days ago that they expected to lose around $200 million on the film, making it one of Hollywood's biggest money-losers ever.

Anyone plan on seeing it? :)

Hardly thrown together. There have been attempts at making it since 1931! Even my boss at AICN, Harry, was producing it about a decade ago.

It looks like fun, but Disney are to blame. They had a no-name lead, a no-name director, and got rid of the "OF MARS" from the title. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Ha, I wondered how long it would be until you replied! ;)

If it's been in the works since 1931 then it's a shame they've made a hash of it. Apparently it's made a fortune at the box office in some Asian countries, but seems to be a flop in the US. I wouldn't say the director was a nobody though considering he was the chap behind Wall-E.

Comments like this don't help either: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17453925

Directors don't tend to make a name for themselves in the public with animated features (most people think Tim Burton directed THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS).
