Yeah that's obviously true, silly dentist man.

never had braces but I do have veneers on 3 of my teeth.

my teeth have always been straight but my top teeth are quite small compared to the rest of my mouth & I ended up with a gap between my front 2 teeth. I was originally going to get braces although I was told they probably wouldn't work because the gap was caused by a muscle / it'd just create another gap elsewhere so I had veneers on them instead to close the gap.

3rd veneer was for a peg tooth.

Never had them but loadssss of people at school have them. Like half our school do, but I don't need them. My sister has overbite from thumb sucking and this horrid dentist put a ruler in her mouth and proper scared her but our new dentist said she doesn't have to if she does't want to and they'll probably straighten themself in time. I wouldn't trust our old dentist anyway after what they did to my teeth

I was told I may need them, had to go and get a mould done which was the worst experience ever but it was all because one tooth was coming down over others so I just had it took out instead.

I had them for about 20 months because my front tooth stuck out a lot. Now I have a retainer I wear at night. I remember when I was little I wanted braces so badly coz they were trendy ;P

Had them on the front like 8 top teeth for a year as my front two were a bit crooked, still having to wear my retainer at night although I often forget :/

I had them for just over a year to bring my front teeth in and then to realign them with my teeth along the bottom. My teeth are *perfect* now and I only have to wear retainers at night. :D

Yeah I had them for about a year and a half, and they did a great job and now they look so good. Sometimes when I had them on though they really pissed me off it just felt really weird and I didn't want them on. I wear retainers at night now, expecting it to go a couple of nights a week when I go for my appointment in a couple of weeks though.

I currently have braces.
I don't mind them unless they're hurting me or if I've just had them tightened because then I can't eat the foods I like! :( The dentist kinda screwed up with them so they broke twice but she did nothing about it for ages so it means I have to have them on for longer..

I had them for two years when I was 15 - 17 and honestly, probably the best thing I've ever done. My teeth were awful before but now they're pretty straight and nice! I hated them when I had them though especially when I had to go and get them tightened, I was actually crying throughout the day because of the pain feels like somebody is trying to rip your teeth out!

AlexJRiley
05-04-2012, 03:07 PM
I used to have them as I had prominent "eye" teeth and a 6mm overbite, they really hurt when you first get them on and when they get tightened up. To anybody about to get brases i'd recommend stock up on yoghurt, rice pudding, mash potato and ice cream as you literally cannot chew when they first get put on and when they get tightened. Towards the end of the treatment tightening pain is down to a minimum and doesnt affect you at all. If this has put you off of having them i'd say go for it. The results are phenominal and think about the cost, later down the line (past 16) the NHS will not pay for them for you and they start at a minimum of £2000. My sister was recommended to have them and could of had them done on the NHs but didn't and now she regrets it. If they say you can have them on the NHS dont hesitate get them done!

What do you mean surgery? If you have braces you don't have surgery unless you are having teeth removed for braces. When you have braces they just put some glue on your teeth and stick the metal on them and tighten it all up. Unless there is a type of brace that does require surgery!

Yeap for just under 2 years. My front teeth crossed a bit and I apparently had an overbite, so they removed 2 teeth, but the gaps from where they removed the teeth came back because my teeth moved lol. Can't really notice it though

and no, i never had braces. i had retainers for like 2 weeks until i forgot about em, tried to put em in a week later and they wouldn't fit. that around 10 years ago. in regards to braces, i was told there wasn't any point as i wouldn't see much difference and something else would of been better but it was so long ago i can't remember the whole conversation lmao.

I have top and bottom braces which I waited years for on the NHS and then got fed up and went private (which cost quite a bit). I had four teeth taken out (two top, two bottom) as well, but that was because they were getting in the way of my wisdom teeth. My friends told me my teeth were fine even before I had braces, but I'll still feel that they'll be much straighter even if nobody else can see it.

I had braces for 8 months, no teeth removed even though the bottom I had 'upside down snake fangs' where my cainines went right behind my teeth, scary stuff! Got them off two weeks ago and was meant to have them for one and a half years, my teeth must move fast :L Now onto the fun of retainers which are alright. One week I had them day & night, now everynight for 6 months. My friends are all annoyed as I barely had them on and they all had retainers on for 6 months day & night and so on.

I've had braces from year 8 to year 10 to close gaps & line them because i was a goof toof *facepalm*

i had to have an op before though to remove four teeth, two from the top & two from the bottom. I was sedated in the UCLH and it was for like 2 days. 1st day was for op 2nd day was to monitor me after the op then I went home with a numb mouth etc drooling everywhere having to walk around with tissue under my mouth -_-

but yeah it wasn't bad... braces was the **** back then :D

I've had braces. Had to have 4 teeth out a few month before having braces. Dentist got 3 teeth out and then snapped the 4th which meant he couldn't get to the remaining half in my gum. Had to go hospital, they had to dig into my gum and get it out. Had braces for over a year and they were very helpful and pain free. The only slight pain/ache i felt was when they got tightened. If anyone is advised to get braces I strongly advise you get them as they are very beneficial and will help you long-term.

I know. It's horrible. My teeth weren't even that bad. All it was is the fact that I had too many teeth on the top and two of them overlapped one another so I had to have surgery to get them removed and It's taken longer than what they thought for them to fall back in place. So much fun that was... i had to be under anesthetic but when they woke me up i punched the nurse in the face apparently, think I was still dreaming not really sure lol.

Braces for under 18 are free
Over 18's would have to pay.

Not entirely sure. Mine were free when i was at the age of 16.

The only bad thing is they are extremly expensive, sure a smile is one of the best things you can have. But jesus christ imagine what you could do with the money you'd spend on them.

Yeah, you're spot on.

Alot of people have brilliant teeth but alot of people also have a few errors with them. I got told if i didn't wear braces I would get gum disease in the future.

Haven't had braces + don't need them. Although, when I was 14 I did go to hospital to have 4 or 5 teeth taken out because I had too many teeth and they were "crowding" my mouth lol. Kinda glad I had a 1 hour operation instead of years of braces.
