I was in the spam thread talking about Whitney Houston & this thread came to mind...

What Artist(s) Do Your Parents top 3? & do you like that artist to?

Mum:
Whitney Houston (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JWTaaS7LdU&ob=av2e)
Toni Braxton (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_hKXk2qSuw)
Brandy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOxMxHrnmBM&feature=fvst)

I like 1 & 3.

1 because Whitney is just Whitney... all her songs are great.
3 because I use to always watch 'Moesha (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115275/)' on 'Trouble'.

Dad:
Bob Marley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGqrvn3q1oo)
Shabba Ranks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH_0_pijbZY)
Mikey Dread (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8u9g9XjjYJ0)

I actually like all of them; I just find it relaxing and you can zone out to it.

Edited by Glitzen (Forum Moderator) Thread moved to "Music" as it's better suited here.

i can't stand linkin park or muse, they are both terrible imo. i don't mind foo fighters, their new album is pretty good.

dad: johnny cash, bob dylan and the doors

i think johnny cash and bob dylan are both amazing singers/songwriters. i don't mind a little bit of the doors, they're ok.

idk mum isn't really into her music as such. She likes Ella Fitzgerald but also Air.

My dad is really really into music and always has been so he likes a huge range. I don't think he could even narrow it down. He likes typical old man things like Bob Dylan and The Velvet Underground but has shown me some gems like Talking Heads and I grew up with massive attack in the car.

not being funny or anything but I don't see why anyone cares what peoples parents 'fav artists' are? :S or that might just be me thinking it's a lil pointless.

But anyway, my mums fav artist has to be kylie minouge and my dads just into old house music.

Conspiracy.

My mum likes The Beach Boys, Westlife, Robbie Williams and Whitney Houston. I do kind of like Whitney Houston but I couldn't listen to her on repeat all day.
My dad likes Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Journey and Toto. I DO like Pink Floyd and classic rock but I couldn't listen to it all day either.

My Mam - adele, robbie williams and a load more

My dad - Eagles, Coldplay, Level 42, Asia, used to love busted ha and other old stuff.

Adele is okay but sometimes you get sick of some songs getting overplayed and if you watch music competitions too many people sing her stuff. My dad got me into the eagles - some class it as dad rock but they have skill and its hard to think of another band with as many hits and years in the industry as them.

Well there are old bands but if you take any of the current artist most would run out of popular songs easily as a lot of the mainstream artists out atm, well quite a few have basically a few popular songs. A band like the eagles though has a large collection - I saw them live and they did a big variety but they could have done double the length of the show and still be able to perform popular stuff people know.

... Well if they are current and recent bands then they quite obviously don't have the years behind them that The Eagles do. Forgive them for not being born decades ago? Wth are you trying to say lmao

I'm trying to say how a band like the eagles have loads and loads of hits - while as most of today's bands seem to bring out 1 or two hits and then fall off the radar - they then tour and try and get popular but they don't have enough popular music.

Some bands obviously have a load of hits - but there are bands out there with a few albums and yet people only know 2 songs by them.

My dad used to like Moby and New Order and stuff, but now I think he's more into KT Tunstall and Adele n'people like that. Although mostly he just listens to BBC Radio 2. But he has a nice album collection which includes things from Avril Lavigne to Pink Floyd to Enya and beyond. I haven't spoken to my mum about music in like six years, but back then she liked Scissor Sisters, ABBA and The Darkness. Don't really know what she likes now, she mostly listens to the radio as well, although instead of the BBC it's Heart (TOTAL UGH).

You don't really have a point, bands like that have always existed

All I was saying is there aren't as many bands these days that produce as many hits over as many years - most of todays bands come have a good album or two and vanish - that was my point I was making

Yeah but I'm saying that bands like that have ALWAYS existed, it's not a new thing. Most bands of the 60s and 70s we hear nothing of, the world only remember the legends, and bands that are current now will go on to be remembered as well..

I never said it wasn't a new thing. Just seems there's more bands coming and going these days. But that's what I think anyway's. I love all music well a variety, but I feel most music from 60s/70s etc is a lot better than today's modern stuff
