Terabytes. We all want them -- especially if they're served solid-state. But if you're not quite ready to pony up for OCZ's Octane SSD 1TB model, you might want to take a trip to Japan. KingMax's SMU25 Client Pro 1TB SSD has been spotted for 119,000 yen (roughly $1,490), shaving a good chunk off the price of its OCZ rival, although there is a trade-off.http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/09/sub-1500-kingmax-1tb-ssd-spotted-in-japan/

If they can fit 1tb in that then surely smartphones need to step up.

need to step up.
I would imagine that the immense cost that would cut into their profit margins is the main prevention of this.

Also we need read/write speeds to increase as download speeds increase - maybe we're a long way off 250 megaBYTE download speeds but it's good to be prepared.

I wouldn't say we are that far away, the tech is defiantly there, Its just the cost on improving the infrastructural to cope with it, and the roll out costs.

People have 4TB+ of personal stuff for video, music and all sorts, I dare say in 10 years we'll be looking into 1PB drives.

10 years is a long time buuuut, I reckon we'll only just be getting to 500tb, spinning drives are starting to plateau slightly on size and SSDs are still struggling to take off. Especially if 4k doesn't kick off fairly sharpish since otherwise we probably won't need 1PB (I can feel you quoting this post in ten years time and mocking me already).

Its kinda pointless for a small portable device to have this much memory. I guess it could be useful as a backup device instead of having to have a powered hard drive taking up a socket.
