Microsoft to bring full Internet Explorer browsing to Xbox 360 with Kinect controls
Microsoft is currently testing a modified version of Internet Explorer 9 on its Xbox 360 console, according to our sources. The Xbox 360 currently includes Bing voice search, but it's limited to media results. Microsoft's new Internet Explorer browser for Xbox will expand on this functionality to open up a full browser for the console. We are told that the browser will let Xbox users surf all parts of the web straight from their living rooms.
Microsoft has also integrated Kinect gestures and voice control heavily into the experience, allowing Xbox owners to quickly search using the existing Bing functionality and pull up relevant web pages. Kinect support is not mandatory according to our sources, but the browser is said to be tuned for Kinect usage. There's no word on a launch date for Internet Explorer on Xbox, but with E3 on the horizon we'd expect to hear the official details from Microsoft in a matter of weeks.

This seems like a dumb idea. It's hardly as if the PS3 browser ever gets used?

I guess it stops people from saying "But the Xbox 360 doesn't have a browser" :P

People actually say that? If anything this will just end up with there being some massive security bug with the browser - that would be a complaint about the xbox.

This should have been done years ago! I won't have any use for it, but its nice to have it I guess.

I have a feeling that everyone will say that, I reckon the browser won't even work, there'll just be a false option to open the browser that rick rolls you in the unlikely event anyone has any use for it.

Only if there is a bug that would lead to any security risks in the first place. I know a certain someone who will have a field day over that!

It's going to be built upon the IE codebase, over a decade of bad programming practices. They're far from it being bullet proof. Also I'm not sure how happy Recursion would be happy about the security risks :P.

hmm not too sure how useful this will be haha, are they trying to turn it into a computer or something? :S
I won't have any use for it but I guess the odd person may use it haha

I can't remember anybody who has a passion for hating all things microsoft, well except there was this one guy a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away but that was a long time ago. I don't think he's been around these parts for weeks. His name escapes me.
meh, not to keen on this atm but I'm sure i'd find some use for it once in a while

Can't imagine it'll be useful unless you have a mouse and keyboard, typing on the Xbox controller is notoriously ****

I thought about getting one when I first got my Xbox, but a £5 USB keyboard works just as well, if not better

I dunno why everyone thinks this is a bad idea - to be honest it makes sense to me - Even the Wii has a browser (based on Opera I believe) and the Wii seems to be far from a media console to me. It makes me think Microsoft is going behind again - I remember when I had internet explorer 6 and moved to Firefox (now a chrome user) - The big massive gap between internet explorer 6 and 7 seemed redicilous and lots of other browsers where well ahead - by the time it came out with tabbed browsing, trying to make it sound like a new thing for browsers, all the other browsers where even more ahead.
They are starting to be a bit more up to date by now and a browser on the Xbox will help them - I don't have one by the way, I have a PS3 but it's handy to have if it's there. Also handy if your main computer/phone etc. ever decided to play up (even if console browsers are limited)

Yeah, or for example my PS3 browser comes in rly handy if my lappy is broken which does happen :P So it's a good backup for xbox users :P

Only time I ever use the browser on my PS3 is when my laptop is off and I cba to turn it on or my iPod or phone are downstairs, I still don't think it will change anyone's opinions of Xbox or PS3.

Not everyone will have a laptop, like me. Though I do have everything set up around my desk so not really a problem.

i seem to remember various skype calls were you couldn't find your phone

Basically what your saying is nothing is coming to Xbox 360, in my opinion, internet explorer counts as nothing. :P
