I went to the doctors on Thursday as I had excruciating pains on my left lower abdomen. He told me he thinks my bowel could be just cramped so he prescribed me with some tablets. I took the tablets yesterday and last night things turned for the worst. I had the shooting dart pain on my left lower abdomen, I was finding it hard to breath and I was also getting pains in my chest. I literally couldn't move last night and during the night things felt even worse, I tried to get myself into a comfortable position but once I fell back to sleep I start getting dart pains in my chest but when I moved they went away. I really hope the doctor didn't diagnose me wrongly.

What should I do? The GP is booked up until Monday and I'm afraid things will only get worse again tonight.

Does your GP have emergency appointments? Mine saves a few in the morning for patients who really can't wait for their actual booked appointment. If they are really full I'd think about going to the hospital, it sounds kinda serious, and you don't wanna take a risk on your health.

Pains in the chest, and difficulty breathing shouldn't be left, I think you should check firstly for an out of hours surgery, failing that go to A&E and take your medication with you. Don't wait!

Appendix are lower right.

Just follow as the doctor has already said and if it progresses head off to A&E.

Okay I went. She doesn't know what is wrong with my side, she thinks it's ibs (irritiable bowel syndrom) or it could be related to stress. She did some examinations and I found out I have a *REMOVED* slip disc in my back so if it doesn't fix in 5 days they may have to talk about surgery. Great, just my luck.

thanks for trying to help +rep to those i can

Those are the worst, my sister's boyfriend has a slipped disc and he's been waiting the best part of a year downing morphine hoping it'll solve itself. Waiting lists for surgery are pretty high.

It's good you got checked out. A scary experience no doubt. At least you know what's wrong with you, and what can be done to help you get better. I hope the pain eases :)

5 days???? I swear a slipped disc takes weeks to heal :S my mum had it and it took about 5 weeks, I don't think the doctor even considered surgery

It depends on the nature of the slipped disc, it's not like there's only one standard way in which it occurs. Sometimes a doctor will be able to quickly identify it'll fix it self, or whether surgery is the only likely fix or whether it'll be a slow or fast recovery.

Do they have NHS direct in NI?

Not sure about the slipped disc. How di dyou get it? Wear and tear or trauma?

As for IBS, does the abdo pain go away with defecation? If so that might be IBS.

Also any blood/mucus in the stools?
