View Full Version : How do YOU find new music?

:odey:

I'm really trying to find new bands / artists to listen to, and I just don't know where to look,

Most people say YouTube is the way forward, and they just troll from song to song, and related artists etc, but that just doesn't work for me,

I think my most popular way is to just go down the itunes charts and just pick out what I like,

But my taste is so fine tuned doing it this way :/

I want to find more under the radar artists etc :/

So, how do you do it?
xo

i mainly find new music from either music channels or music websites.

i find this website really helpful, but then again it all depends on what music you listen too. if you like listening to a wide range of different music (mainly bands) then this site should help you out: http://www.nme.com/chart. they update the charts quite frequently and even give you the option to listen to them beforehand.

what i usually do is download the artists album (if they have one out) and go from there. if i decide i don't like most of their songs then i'll either delete the album or just keep certain songs. haha!

Me and my mates have similar tastes so sometimes just hear from then or usually listen to radio 1 when t and Annie Mac on and look at tracklist like that. Also on Soundcloud you can explore new tracks from a specific genre so I usually find some dubstep, hip hop and some electronic usually.

i just listen to films/tv/adverts and look up the songs if i like them, then listen to related songs!

i also sometimes type in random words into spotify and see if i like any of the songs (it's how i found my favourite song Amelia Earhart by Tom McCrae)

also googling other people's spotify playlists and having a quick listen through!

through clicking 'related artists' on spotify and artists endorsing/and featuring with other artists really. i don't listen to the radio, nor stick to top 40 music anymore because i tend to listen to a select few albums and stick to them for a few months until newer ones come out lol.

also compilation albums help me finding new music (new, as in music i haven't heard before; so doesn't necessarily mean new as in just realised). occasionally, also just surfing the net through music-related blogs/forums etc.

normally i browse through youtube and i rarely look at the charts. i never find new music through the radio, all they are playing are boring and mainstream music.

Oh... there are lots of different ways to find new music for me.
Music blogs, friends, hearing something on tv, covers by artists I already like, related artists on youtube, spotify, lastfm, etc...
A few times I have discovered music by simply googling the kind of music I feel like hearing.

I either use the radio, listen to covers of songs on youtube and have found new people using spotify; either through adverts, their radio, related artist feature or soundrop!

mostly music forums

main three really are drowned in sound, popjustice and pitchfork.

i used to read nme a lot, and a lot of bands from 2007/8/9 i've tend to stick with, so usually pretty excited when they release new stuff.
