Last I knew, all the moderators were from Singapore, simply because of cheaper labour.

It's a shame. I remember a time where practically all the moderators were ex-super Hobbas, back when Moderator and Moderator2 got changed to the individual MOD-Example accounts. But times change.

OK, now I really want to quit? I actually want the .sg MODs now tbf if it means we don't get people from a "Call Centre" (if you've experienced one of those on the phone... just my God) as moderators.

I thought the MODs were from Madrid tbh. I swear they went from Singaporean to Madrid but I must have got confused somehow xD.

If you get made redundant by Sulake for some other workers who have even worse English, you're hardly going to act nice and keep secrets are you Sam? ;)

Oooo, what is Tallespin's role? Are the SG staff members leaving? :O It's a shame Habbo just don't have a good stable staffing team like they once did!

A Habbox reporter should write an exposé on this. Become the next Guardian or DailyFail :P It's strangely amusing but not entirely shocking all these events happening at once. It makes you wonder what moderators were being paid before outsourcing. Perhaps they were paid very little but UK/EU employment laws meant Habbo had to outsource?

letting underage teens have modding powers is hardly going to improve the quality of moderation, pointless bans would increase tenfold as would scamming from mods picking up furni etc.

Not if those moderators were adults and could prove that to Habbo.

Moderators in-game need to be trained and vetted. It's not as simple as reading through calls and clicking 'Ban' every now and again.

I know fine well what it requires and I never did say that's all you have to do did I? All I said is if an adult could prove they were an actual adult, had a police check on them and proved to habbo they were trustworthy ect.. Then some people who've played habbo for years, could probably become better moderators then the current mods.

They should bring back in a system like the Hobbas tbh. It would cut down on the stupid requests sent to the mods, therefore reducing the need for such a big team - voila, less staff = more profit.

Then people would complain about the fact that some may abuse. I'd support something like it coming back (or Habbo Helpers getting more powers EVENTUALLY) but I imagine a minority would ruin it and abuse powers. It's an unfortunate outcome from these issues and it also makes me wonder what exactly I'd end up banned/warned for. I talk about so much sexual stuff (hence my 50+ bans oh yeah :l) and I don't know whether a Hobba (or something similar) would consider a sexual joke too far or not [I suppose it'd differ on opinion].

Oh yeah, you couldn't trust a random bunch of Habbos with that much power, but they should learn from last time, and not let them override room queues etc. There's a difference between sexual banter and 'i wanna stik ma pens in u vj'

this is disgraceful! I remember back in the day we had hobba's and then obviously habbo was growing so we had to employ moderators right?. Yeah we employed trained moderator staff who 80% we ex-hobbas. Nowadays we've got these... CALL CENTER FREAKS?!?!? WTF REALLY?? SULAKE BETTER BOOK UP IT'S IDEAS!!!! WE DON'T WANT MORE PAEDOFILES DO WE?!?!?!? BLAME SULAKE ON CUTITNG THEIR STAFF FOR THE PAEDO'S! WE DIDNT HAVE THIS PROBLEM BACK IN THE DAY! Singapore? Cheap labour? I don't think so. Singapore is expensive, and although there is almost no minimum wage (for pink and blue I/C holders), there are hundreds of cheaper places to employ moderators... e.g. just across the causeway into Malaysia.... what gives you the idea of cheap labour?

they already had office set up their so it would kinda make sense to employee moderators in a country where you already have set up, and singapore was probably the cheapest

I honestly feel for Singapore, I remember when DoeLee was in charge of the SG Moderators, the SG team were one of the best! When I was a Habbo X I'd have these conversations with MOD-Pretzel, and she knew at the time that they were to lay off a lot of people... and this was about 3 years ago! And from what I remember the SG staff were paid around 8-10 SG Dollars an hour... Double for night shifts (until they closed the Hotel at night)

You underestimate how much cheaper it is to do business in other places. The cost of the startup will be irrelevant when comparing cheaper wages.

Double for night shifts (until they closed the Hotel at night)My friend knows one of the ex staff/mods (IDK their user name)... all I know was that they were malay and really nice... anyway all I hear is that the habbo SG staff were the best world wide and most efficient (no surprises for SG). I used to go on the hotel, but it was always empty, I'm surprised it was ever opened... the city state only has a 5mil population, and of that only a minority will play the game... even when they expanded to MY, the number of players was low.

Yea, Singapore and Malaysia were the most efficient Hotels. Bloody profitable too for the size! Don't forget about the time zones, the peak amount of users were about 800.

The Staff there would actually make a conversation, wouldn't act 'stuck-up', it's a real shame.

I still remember waking up at half 5 in the morning for X meetings, bloody hell the commitment for a virtual world!

Don't worry, we are all sad cases on here anyway so we won't judge.

But 5 am!? Singapore is GMT + 8... why not just make the x at 5.30pm SGT?? Did habbo X's ever get paid btw?

BeanEgg
23-06-2012, 11:28 PM
Indeed! It's half 7 now haaha. Nope, we didn't get paid, no X's ever got paid from the best of my knowledge, just the access to full rooms, the private forum. We did get a few game accounts with thousands of credits. LOL But even then we weren't allowed to just spend spend spend Finland strangely set 'furni' budgets to each hotel for competitions.

notahabbo
23-06-2012, 11:38 PM
It's half 7 now? Are you from the UK?

But yeah I think they should bring back community staff, like jeffoo (she only gave out crap gifts in random rooms like a plasto chair but she did awesome campaigns) and the SG staff. The thing that I don't get about the merge is this: obviously they saved a lot of money through efficiency, but wouldn't they make much more advertising money if they were based in local countries... I mean hotel campaigns are open to all, so having a hotel that is predominantly one country should be more attractive with advertisers. Also having a local office will make it easier to attract new people to advertise through the game. But I guess this is not the case given that they did the merge. I can't believe they closed loads of hotels. OK habbo china closed, it only had like 10 people online at any one time (of which 9 were from other hotels), had issues with the government (allegedly) and it was split into traditional and simplified language hotels (which was absolutely pointless given most people can read both well enough to communicate and the fact that automatic conversions are available), but why was hotels like Japan closed? Those poor players who spent money and lost it all!

BeanEgg
24-06-2012, 07:57 PM
Yea I am from the UK

It does make sense to cut off China.. not very profitabe, and it definitely would be efficient to combine all country's to one, but then there's always the argument marketing-wise that by having individual hotels, then there's better focus and therefore the case of being much more profitable! But I guess the cost benefit heavily is pushed towards cutting Hotels, unfortunately!
