View Full Version : Live Chat
Hi, I have just had an idea that I personally would love to see implemented, and want to hear some other views.
Could we adapt the PM system, like facebook adapted theirs, so you can live chat with people? Like with the little pop up console thing?
Lee.

I think that's just like a VM but you get more of a delay with them.

What, like the Facebook chats? If so, this seems like a pretty good idea to me :)

Too much bandwidth, thats like installing a shoutbox that re-fresh's 100 times a min.

after the shoutbox drama/failure i doubt this will ever happen
dont think i'd use it anyway

The shoutbox and this are not related, this is just a more effective way to communicate with people 1 on 1 :)

Meh no point when we have vms and other messaging services that people use.

How could that be moderated btw?

It would be exactly the same as the current PM system I assume so there'll always be a report button if needed.
But I don't see the need in this whatsoever so I'm afraid I just don't think it's a worthwhile implementation.
EDIT: oh you can't report from PMs anymore, I'm sure you used to be able to?

Oh so be a bit pointless if you know who's reported you then lmao!

Not really a fan of this idea when 1-1 chatting could be done either via PM's, MSN, Skype or even Facebook itself. We also have the visitor messaging system so there is always ways to talk to people on the forum. I do not believe we need an additional way of doing that and most of the plugins I've seen that enable this sort of communication are often paid plugins. Some do offer demos and free versions but then they are restricted to X amount of stuff.
no real need for it and wouldnt really want habbox management having access to my instant messages as well as my private messsages! seen it on other sites and it really didn't get used much as it's just easier to use other existing platforms for it.

It'd just detract from posting IMO

Don't see the point when nearly everyone has skype or msn, and habbo has chatting usually too!!

Why do people keep requesting things that will result in less talk on the actual forums?

I really don't see how it will. It's no different than a PM system, except for it speeds things up. There is no group discussion, no community involvement. Just a quicker way to pass message, and receive back. Good for holding conversations with friends whilst your using the forums as you do now.

But why re-invent the wheel sort of speak when you can already pretty much do that? :P

hehe, it's just easier for me to have a conversation with Screw660 when I can type, hit send and expect a reply instantly... Whilst posting on the forum ofc! :)

Msn, skype chat? Multi-Tasking - Could even have the forum snapped to one side of the monitor and msn or your chat program to another side if you are into that sort of thing.
I really don't think this will go down well. It's a nice suggestion though

It would make it easier I suppose but why fix something that isn't broken? VMs and PMs work perfectly fine, and if you do want a more instant messenger you use skype, msn or even habbo. I don't see a point, really!

This would go "down" just like the shoutbox did.

If it's not different from PM system why suggest it in the first place?! :P VMs/PMs are fast enough for a forum, if you want faster download skype/msn/etc.
