Hi,

Well as some of you i smoked for about 5 years, so now i've quit for about a month i've worked out how much i've saved which is around £115 per month, now smoking obviously makes your teeth not as white. I mean mine are still white but where the cigerette's obviously been in my mouth next to my teeth its stained it a rank colour. Was wondering if anyones had their teeth whitened ?

I have. Had the laser treatment done on them. To be honest, the results aren't as good as they say they'll be. Still better than they were but it'd take more than one treatment to get them really white.

Is it not possible for them to be cleaned by a hygienist?

I think i'd get them cleaned by the hygienist before you even think about getting them whitened

I would get them cleaned by a hygienist before you want them to get whitened as the dude said above :-)

I would reccomend going to the hygenist. She did a great job with mine, it felt so refreshing after! :D

as the others said see a hygenist... and ask yourself do you really want them white as white lol, just makes people know you had them done.

As the above said, the Hygenist is the best option, but be prepared to have a very long lecture about how you should have took better care of your teeth when you get their.

Really white teeth can look wrong on some people, anyway, so make sure you think it over before just rushing into tooth whitening.

My mum was looking into something like this the other day and asked a few questions about it. I'm not sure if this is the same thing that you're talking about but the dentist said that while it does whiten them to an extent, it is possible that some will still have some slight colour left after treatment.

Don't expect your teeth to be as white as a hollywood smile if you do just get them whitened, to get your teeth that white you'd have to get porcelain veneers which can cost up to £1000 per tooth.

Get Crest Whitestrips off eBay or something. I've used them many times but they're not available in the UK (EU legislation states that hydrogen peroxide has to be below a stupid level, 0.2% or something) but yeah, it's like 10% hydrogen peroxide and just bleaches them. It hasn't harmed my teeth and they work so well but you have to maintain them because after you start whitening, your teeth will stain easier than ever before. Just get the strips and don't smoke again, my advice.

I'm not gonna lie to you, hydrogen peroxide is harmful but those strips do claim to be "enamel safe" and they only release hydrogen peroxide when they touch your teeth. People spend loads of money getting their teeth whitened using weak methods when you can easily pay £30 for a pack of white strips that will actually bleach your teeth. EU legislation is stupid to be honest and the fact they've capped hydrogen peroxide in the EU at 0.25% is ridiculous.

Can you get those plastic mouth guards that are molded to the shape of your teeth that you fill with the whitening goo and leave on overnight? Here in Canada I think Crest makes the whitening stuff, but that might be banned under EU legislation? Not totally sure. I've only had experiences with these, never with laser whitening or other treatments.

I know this is going to sound gross, but I've never been to a dentist and I had my teeth whitened twice. Recently I went to the dentist just for fun and all they had to do was remove plaque and besides that my teeth were completely healthy. If you dont want to spend a lot of money, use peroxide (idk if it's the same everywhere) swish it in your mouth for two minutes before you go to bed and not only will it whiten, it'll clean and take care of your gums too!! (obviously not like the dentist but it will work over time)

You can't get peroxide in dental products in the EU as it's illegal sadly (well, there's a limit of 0.25% of peroxide in the product, which is useless).

I'm not saying Dental peroxide, I'm saying legitimate full on real peroxide. For cuts / scrapes. Don't swallow it, swish it in your mouth and it cleans really well.
