What ever happened to ClubTropica?

I'm guessing some of you older users remember the hype that was ClubTropica, it even had its own sub forum at one point. I signed up as I'm sure most of you did, it set out to challenge Habbo though I'm not sure if the client was ever released.

Posted it in here as it relates to Habbo. I'm sure it'll get moved though!

I see ClubTropica as a scam. I bought some 'Isla' ages ago ("their" currency, even though the source code was riddled with words such as 'credits' and 'Habbo'), and I also won some of their competitions, adding to my total currency. A few weeks later, they set my balance back to 0 and said competition-won Isla expires after some time ... but they also took the Isla that I bought myself. They did not refund it.

ClubTropica's client never opened, and probably never will. It turned into a social networking site that ultimately just ripped off Habbo.

I was also a news reporter on a fansite called Tropica Bombers.

not sure if any social games will ever accomplish what habbo USED to be..it was a masterpiece, of course during its golden years

I remember this! There was quite a bit of hype around it but it looks like nothing ever came from it.

I remember it, sounded good on top, had some top level staff working on it such as Callie, Disarno and Jibbi, then it just faded into the abyss.

it turned into more of a social network, a little like myspace. the client never launched but people stayed and shared things on their homepages. i have a couple of accounts on it, never done anything with them though.

I was super excited for it as I had the account name 'Will' which also landed me in the client beta. As it turned out they basically hadn't done any of the client, had sporadic updates for several months and then cancelled the client and tried a version of facebook a la habbo homes which did terribly but I think they're still around.
