I think Helen Keller could drive an automatic, so how many of you can drive an automatic and a stick? I can drive a stick, my car is a 6-speed E90.. I was **** to begin, but now I find it weird not to drive one..

I can drive manual, I've never tried automatic (they're hard to come by in the UK). People I've spoked to though have said they prefer manual as they feel more in control

I drive manual. Never tried an automatic though I imagine it to be like driving a go-kart :P They're not hard to come by. My mum's had two automatics.

I drive a manual car. I've driven an automatic and will never do it again unless I really have to. They seem unstable :/

Manual, seeing as it's standard in the UK. Dad had an automatic for a while but he found the car "lagged" for a few seconds before kicking in at junctions etc, went back to a manual.

About to say.. doesn't most cars in UK use standard transmissions? Wish it was this way in USA, its damn near impossible to find a brand new car with a manual transmission, in a lot of cases you have to custom order a new car if you want a manual. About the only things in USA that comes with Manual from the factory is high end sports cars (Mustang, Camaro, Corvette)

I passed my driving test in an automatic, so I am only qualified to drive automatics - but that doesn't bother me. I drove fine in a manual car during the lessons, but during the test, it all went to pieces and I failed about 3 times - so I redid it in an automatic and passed. :) That said, I view a car as a way to get from A to B - it's not something I drive for pleasure or anything. Most people in the UK will be qualified to drive manual and automatic (having passed in a manual).

They do indeed, you can easily buy a car with an automatic gear box but it's better to pass the test with a manual (stick) license and be able to drive both automatic and manual cars. The only cars that only ever come with automatic transmissions are American cars like the Chrysler Voyager (which I think is the Town & Country over where you are), though they seem to be European these days and come with both. Quite a few automatic cars are easy to find as they are usually offered as rental cars, replacement cars or mobility cars (cars that are sold to the elderly or those with disabilities for very cheap) so they're usually in circulation and sold as Used. Most of the time there are manuals but it's a healthy mix given the demand for both manuals and automatics.

Doubt i'll ever drive an automatic to be honest, driving isn't really driving to me if your cars not a manual. It's super easy to learn, automatic omylord, brake and accelerate.. sure monkeys could be trained to do thatą

I am looking for a manual car now.. when I bought the one I have now I didn't want a 6-speed.. I got one because it was all they had.. now that I want one it's a different story :(
