View Full Version : Why can't habbo just...
Well here is my idea and I have no idea if they thought about doing this but yeh
Change their terms of service and make it so if you're under a certain age implement this word filter system (which is awful) and for users over a certain age make it a lot less restrictive or unfiltered. That way if a child does sign up with a fake D.O.B Sulake can't be held liable because the child has broken their ToS?
OR
Hire good moderators, which isn't hard as any idiot could see what is a bannable offence..despite their qualifications - minimum wage here people
o and did they remove skimpy clothes? I sure hope so.. i havent checked
just wondered if the top solution is viable

I don't believe they removed skimpy clothes did they? I thought I'd seen some yesterday but I could be wrong.
Also, players lie about their age all the time but really I remember that when you were under 16 when we had the UK hotel you had to put your parents' email address in to verify, I know they could easily create another email and impersonate the parents but that was better than just lying about your age.
Yes, but when you're like 10,11 and sign up with a fake DOB you wouldn't read the TOS properly and I can't see Sulake trying to exploit this fact just to get out of trouble.
Well they have removed the vibrating effect from kissing booths, removed the dating category etc.
I don't really think the first would work. Any kid could sign up with a fake DOB and it won't look like they have done anything to improve safety if that is all they are going to do. I agree though, better moderation is needed. The mods have gone on a banning spree though. Loads of innocent people are being banned and I feel like my words are going to be taken out of context. Im not loving how you can't even ask someone's age either now. Should at least be able to give basic info like name, age and country.

It's actually the adults that they don't want having a free filter - paedophiles are the culprits here, not the children. When people become 'trusted', regardless of age, they will be able to speak freely (as long as they don't break the Habbo way).
Also - they haven't removed skimpy clothing. I reported 2 people cybering in bed the other day; a mod named drischi came into the room but then left WITHOUT banning any of them. I was very disappointed because they were in bed, wearing a bra and saying "-goes up and down your body-" along with tons of obscure padlocks.
I think the plan is to follow in the footsteps of runescape and other online games by implementing a chat filter for new users and a quickchat (called 'closed chat' in a lot of the blog/twitter posts) for users of and under a certain age.

This.
I know users lie about their age, but Sulake can't be held responsible then. They could turn round and say well they shouldn't be on our game, they broke our rules and we will not be held responsible. Though that would more than likely damage their image.
I also agree with Kyle though, that seems like a good solution and clearly works well as proven.
Well the channel 4 reporter claimed to be 11 even though they are breaking the conditions. Like you said, they can't afford to do any more damage to the habbo brand. Enough has been done already.

I do agree that there should be only a filter for children under the age of 16. After this age it should be normal but people do fake their birth date which makes it hard so better mods is the answer.

The first one already exists, well the 2nd part - all kids that sign up with a fake age ARE breaking the ToS, but ofc the news aren't going to explain that as that makes it the parent's fault. If you implement an age-restricted filter, children are going to fake their age.
Moderator-wise, of course that's what they need to do. But they've turned into a money-grabbing company who can get as much profit. TBH I'd gladly work for Sulake on minimum wage moderating!!
They haven't removed bikinis as it's summer and swimming, what do you expect really?
