British taxpayers to pay £350 million extra to EU
British taxpayers will be ordered to pay an extra £350 million to fund the European Union next year after a behind-the-scenes deal in Brussels which left the UK powerless to resist the increase.

Britain is the second biggest net contributor to the EU after Germany, ahead of France and Italy
The United Kingdom is expected formally to vote against the move to boost the EU’s budget by 2.8 per cent for 2013 – at a time when countries across the continent are struggling with austerity measures, shrinking economies and the eurozone crisis. However, the system of qualified majority voting (QMV) means that the UK and its likely allies in opposing the increase – the Netherlands and Sweden – will not be able to block it.
Conservative backbenchers last night hit out at the increase which comes after David Cameron signalled last week that he would never campaign to take Britain out of the EU. Mark Hoban, the Treasury minister, told MPs that the 2.8 per cent increase was an “unhappy compromise” that Britain was unable to block because of QMV. A meeting to approve the deal formally was scheduled for this week.
It will take total EU spending next year to around £108.7 billion – with the £2.9 billion increase on 2012 being stumped up by member states.
The Government only opposes the increase in a vote because it knows the vote will lose, so they get what they really want (more funding to the EU) as well as looking good at the same time to their voters back home in the pitiful attempt to stop anymore funding increases - hence why behind the scenes our government continuously gives in to EU financial demands.
So there we have it, another increase - and the best our government can do it shrug its shoulders and say how sorry it is that it no longer has a say in how taxpayers money is spent. This comment summed it up best for me..
Oh Come on you guys. This is for our own benefit. We all, deep in our hearts know this. The EU is a magnificent idea and this country should be grateful we are included in the European Experiment.
We should all get down on our knees everyday and give thanks to the Lord that he has allowed us to be alive in such great and glorious times.
The fine Mr Cameron like the fine Mr Blair before him know that this country is nothing without the EU and they are doing all they can to make sure we pay our part in it. Likewise the idea of Immigration and Human right which have benefited our country enormously. I say get more immigrants in. We cant have enough.
I particularly find the east Europeans, very worthy and Im glad they chose England to stay rather than other countries in europe.We should be very grateful they chose us and not someone else.
Thank you, thank you Mr Cameron for your great wisdom for insisting we stay in Europe and for everything else you have gracefully bestowed upon us.
