Pendleton just got a silver, she now retires. Such a shame because If she didn't get the first one taken off her we would have most likely got the Gold. I think it's pretty unfair as didn't Anna shove Vicky? :/

Looks like it is allowed! It's a shame the decisions are final and you can't appeal either but at least it's a silver.

Russia seem to of had a surge of medals recently, and now Korea seems far away since we over took their gold medals.

Russia won't come back. I say that and remember today is Friday and near the end.

It's an absolute embarrassment and shambles to have GB, a startup sporting nation, beat Russia, traditionally a sporting powerhouse. Many questions will be asked.

You say that but GB wasn't that far behind in the 2008 games. Russia had 23 while GB had 19. Although Russia's gold medal performance this year has been poor compared to the last games for sure.

Exactly why I called GB a "startup sporting nation", as they had only started developing their sports less than a decade ago via funding from things such as lotteries etc. and they can only grow as seen by the results from Beijing and here.

Russia is already developed as a sporting nation, and is going in decline. For them, it's more political, there's a whole government committee, which is massive, dedicated to the Olympics. Plus, British athletes have to fund themselves often (not always), in Russia it's all sponsored and they get loads of perks. This is why you see many British athletes from private schools (not all) win.

Also, Britain benefited big time as the host nation for automatic qualification in many events.

Indeed, but they all seem pretty good at nailing the dives! He'll be lucky to get Bronze, and even luckier to Gold or Silver with Qiu Bo and Lin Yue, they may fail a few dives but the risks are still there for Daley. The Finalists for the whole 10m Diving are very good. It was shocking to see the Australian diver just miss out on it (Mitchin?)

4x100 World Record. Unreal, Jamaica could go even faster too. I waited all olympics to see that and they didn't disappoint.

Being a 600m former county champion I have watched athletics all my life and I just wanted to see that world record go so bad, and in my favourite event!

Yeah as I loved the BBC's coverage. The Paralympics might be the first sell out in the games 52 year history according to news websites. The reason they say that is because 2.1 million out of 2.5 million tickets have already been sold.

Hopefully it will go great, GB in the Paralympics should also do well as we got quite a good amount of medals in the 2008 games.

BBC:

The BBC has revealed that on the busiest day of its London 2012 Olympics coverage it delivered 2.8 petabytes worth of content, peaking when Bradley Wiggins won gold, where it shifted 700Gb/s. It has also said that over a 24-hour period on the busiest Olympic days it had more traffic to bbc.co.uk than it did for the entire BBC coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2010 games.

They revealed they had 106 million requests for BBC Olympic video content, which included 12 million requests for video on mobile devices across the whole of the Games. Mobile saw the most uptake at around 6pm when people had left the office but still wanted to keep informed of the latest action. Tablet usage, however, reached a peak at around 9pm, where people were using it as a second screen or as they continued to watch the games in bed."

wow. if i wasn't at home (watching the events), i was on the BBC app keeping up with everything; even watching the live stream of the swimming marathon whilst i actually was in hyde park as it was happening :P.

mind you, i didn't know anyone who wasn't watching some events at some point. drives me crazy when people argue that the olympics are a waste of money. it's one of a few (and possibly only) times the whole world is brought together and encouraging patriotism for purposes that aren't associated with war, violence or death (i honestly can't think of something else that has the same effect). if it costs 'x' amount for this to happen, then so be it. members of society deserve something truly positive to root for, in such a dark, negative and pessimistic world we live in. some people just don't realise how important social solidarity really is.
