View Full Version : Working out.
As some of you may know - or may not know. I do go to the gym and I do enjoy it.
Just wanted to put this thread up in case people might have any questions regarding going to the gym - diet or anything else, as I know its becoming pretty mainstream to stay fit and healthy and for boys (gain muscle mass).
The answers will be what has worked for me and my routine and personal findings, nothing professional. I know nothing about the body or have not had any training with a gym instructor.
If you work hard - you can easily attain a good body with minimal effort (in my mind). Personally I go to the gym once a week for around two hours, sometimes a little less. I eat what I want when I want (without being stupid with it). Very little cardio is needed but I do swim on occasion and do 5 mins rowing and 10 mins cycling before I start my weight training. The only supplement I take is two scoops of protein shake after my gym session - so one shake a week.
You only go once a week and only for 2 hours?
I'm there 4 days a week, starting with muscle workouts then finishing on cardio, and there for around an hour and a half to two hours a session. Take one scoop of protein as I wake up, pre-pump before I do my workout and one scoop protein straight after workout.
When you said you can attain a good body with minimal effort, it really depends what you deem a good body. Is a good body just flat stomached or decent abs? If you think you need minimal effort, I can honestly say your not really working out proper?
Nice to see you handing out advice anyway!

Just think to look a lot bigger in general, big arms, shoulders, triceps, legs, chest.. I've never been an ab man as I can't be arsed to diet to achieve the little effects like a 6 pack.. yep one day a week, one shake, virtually no cardio.

You sure you've never used any get-massive-quickly injections or pills? :rolleyes_ Look awfully big for just going once a week for a 2 hour session. But anyway, you need to work more chest if your biceps are like that, they look quite awkward with your chest only being that big.

No I would never take anything silly. I was a big fan of wrestling when I was younger and to see them all die from HGH, steroids, plus I'm scared of needles rules out the injections. Plus pills I don't see why anyone would bother - I'm guessing you mean steroids which have been ruled out if not maybe creatine or something (I don't know if they're pills assuming here). I hate pills, tablets or anything like that so it's a definate no no for me.
I work really hard in the gym but I focus a lot on my arms, I only got gym membership under a year ago so I never worked my chest before hand. I do work my chest now though at the gym but it can be quite hard as my gym gets very busy. I bench press around 80kg. So my arms were worked before I started gym but not all that much. It's the six takeaways a week, that's what gets you hench :P

Creatine just supplys energy to muscles when they are recovering, has near enough the same reactions as protein. If you just concentrated on arms I can kind of understand how they are like that :P
Nice to see someone who works out muscles on the forum though, didn't really think there was anyone into that scene!

I'm just trying to lose weight, so i go swimming four times a week, aquaerboics once a week, and i'm starting gym three times a week as well soon :)
You must curl for two hours straight if you only go one day a week with arms like that, I've just recently starting going and I do 4 days per week but then again I focus on everything and have split days. The only problem I have is eating what I should be, I don't have a very big appetite and with me being skinny I should be eating 2.5k+ calories per day and I find it real hard to manage that. I was going to invest in some shakes but I don't have the money to throw around yet :(
I only do cardio to warm up/warm down
I started going to the gym 1 month ago, almost 6 days or everday for around an hour. I'm not sure if this workout scheme is ok, i focus on one body part a day (triceps or biceps or shoulders or anything) and a little cardio to warm up before working out. I take two servings of mass gainer with two scoops (one for the morning and one before going to sleep/after gym) during the weekdays and one serving of 3 scoops during the weekend after dinner. My friend told me if I want better results take 3 servings a day but I just can't find any time to do that when I'm at school. And i have problem with my diet, I don't have a really huge appetite and I don't eat my breakfast at school which means i usually have 2 meals everyday during the weekdays. I eat white rice everyday which I think it has quite a lot of carbs? And some meat, eggs and vegetables but I don't think I get much calories from the meals. It's been one and a half month since I started going to the gym and I only see a little change with my biceps and chest and I've only gained around 2 kg after I took a bucket of Muscle Juice Revolution 2600.
Should I change my diet? or maybe it doesn't really matter? Is the workout scheme ok? And why is it taking so long for me to gain some mass??

Nah I only curl once during my time there, it's about 40kg on a thing like you lean over and sit on .. so like you don't use your back and just your arms :P If you know what I mean. My stomach has probably expanded tbh the amount i eat I have a huge appetite and I usually have like a takeaway everyday :P .. today was KFC and tmoz is Wing Wah (Chinese buffet) :D

I'd say if you're going six times a week is a bit much esp at your age. I don't know how old you are but it's best to wait till your body has developed a little more before you start weightlifting and such.. mass gainer , isn't that to put on weight.. high in carbs? If unsure please provide me with the details of it... like amount of carbs, protein mainly. Little cardio is fine, I do very little cardio too.
If anything cut your routine down, you're going the gym nearly everyday and I doubt you're eating enough to see the results because you're working it all off. what is your weight now? and do you have a target weight? When I started I was 10 stone 4 pounds and now I'm 13 stone 7 pounds.. I have a digestive disorder which makes it hard for me to gain weight, but obviously it can be done. Maybe 3 days a week and 2 hour sessions ?
You can continue taking the shakes as much as you want.. I know people who take them everyday, I personally don't but I do eat a lot.. and I do eat A LOT of meat. Though im not sure if the shake you're taking might be best in your situation.
As for the results, it's very hard to gain muscle and even weight if you're young. It will come, train hard, eat lots of meat and maybe change your shake and you'll be on your way!
(this is clearly my own opinion and I have no scientific knowledge, it's just what works for me).

I'm only 16. Before i started, i was only 119 pounds and around 5' 10", underweight.. 176 pounds is my target weight and i know it takes years to achieve that haha. I've cut down my gym days to 4 days a week, 1 hour each session with split workouts.

I poop almost everyday or when i overeat but i doubt that will make it hard for me it gain weight?
oh and is there anything that i can do to stop my muscles from shaking when im trying to lift something heavier?

i wish i had the $ to go to the gym. bak at home I could afford to go and I would make sure I get value for $ (i.e. I would go 4x/week) but here in UK it is quite impossible... :( I can only go for free dumbells which require a lot more self-motivation

If your arms are like that from once a week, you should go 4 times a week to see better results IMO. Cant tell from the pic but I dont know what the rest of your bodies like, before I started the gym i had naturally big biceps, traps and quadriceps (for my size at the time) but had no triceps, chest, hamstrings or calves. But 2 hours a week doesnt seem like you can train all the main muscles.. Legs, Chest, Shoulders, Back and Arms. Im not criticising just advice even though im younger and smaller than you. but all in all, good shape bicep mate!

If your muscles are shaking that much you probably shouldn't be lifting that much (weight wise) don't over work yourself to the extent like that, lower weight can work just as well. Unless you're not keeping yourself hydrated enough (to which you would likely experience a lot of fatigue.. shaking all over.. feeling weak). Lucozade I find works best in the gym for that (the still version).
Pooping once a day is normal and won't affect your weight gain. If you're out to gain weight, keep taking that :)

I haven't got the time to go four times a week :P My chest isn't very big though I do agree, my triceps and biceps/legs are ok. :) I'm all up for criticism though! It will probably influence me to change my workout and get better results because of it.. though for the moment I don't want any further results. Just to retain what I have atm :)
sorry to bump this thread, just wanna ask a question.
Does anybody know any good forearm workout? Zak; ?
