So guys, I just wanted to get your opinion on One Direction. Personally, I think that they are f.a.n.t.a.s.t.i.c. both in their music and in general, my favourite song at the moment being 'what makes you beautiful', but what do you think?
Leave your comments here!
they're definitely in some way talented but i don't agree with the amount of fame they have, especially where their music is concerned. yeah, they do have some alright songs but i wouldn't say they have amazing voices. they're nothing new rly..

The vast majority of their songs are good, think only one I wasn't keen on.
And it is rare for me to like an most of/an entire album.

J-Raviv; linked me to an acoustic version of urm... 1 thing I think, earlier and I thought that was alright. Never really got into their other songs though, they're quite good singers but I just dislike the songs :(

I've always liked One Direction, not just because they're so hot but I really like their music. There actually isn't one song that I don't like. I currently have their calendar, limited yearbook edition 'up all night' CD, the official annual 2012, dare to dream: life as one direction hardcover book, one direction test your super-fan status book, two t-shirts, loads of posters and pictures and I have tickets for their tour next year :)

I think they're hyped up a lot because they were like unknown until X Factor, they were solo artists and they all got put together and it worked? They're not God's gift or anything and they're ok but I don't agree with people throwing themselves at them and crying when they just see them lmao. They sound ok but I wouldn't go overboard, they have way too much fame than other people who haven't come from a talent show.

Well the xfactor is what made them. I agree that some fans go a bit obsessive which isn't necessary. One person actually fainted when she touched zayn at an album signing.

I guess but really even without the Syco label they have (don't they?) I believe they could have done well regardless maybe not as good as what Simon Cowell made them admittedly (such as he flies them off to USA to do their videos but with people like Misha B and Ronan Parke he puts them in front of a green screen), they have the likability factor which I think contributes a lot. I suppose the fame hasn't gone to their head really? Not like some people may be.

Yeah I'm sure they would have done well regardless, they have the looks and decent voices so it would be hard for them not to. I don't think anythings gone to their heads, they seem to appreciate the fan support a lot.
I love them so much! They all seem so lovely too.
Their music is good and I'm glad they get so much of a hype really. I like how most of them try their hardest to get to know the fans and things and try interacting with them on Twitter, it's nice.

I love them but I really think their Up All Night album did them no justice, they do have talent but they ruined it by using auto tune too much on the album. They were very good on the xfactor but they have improved a lot as you can tell with their acoustic stuff they do and the live tour (i've only watched videos cause I can't go to them due to lack of money *+*+) but yeah when I have money I do and try and buy their merch like I have 6 large posters of them and magazine ones (my wallpaper is just posters now), I have their Dare To Dream book, Up all night album, All their singles (WMYB, GBY & OT) and their Up All Night live tour DVD. I still have't managed to see them live and I've not got tickets to their next tour either so I can't really say how good they are live accurately since I've only seen videos! But I hope to see them live in the future :')

None of them are exceptionally talented in any way. They are, at the end of the day, a good looking bunch of guys with decent voices who found themselves in a lucky situation on The X Factor. Throw in some good stylists and a marketing team and you get success. They're doing very well for themselves and they seem like nice enough guys so fair play to them, make the most of it I say. I doubt it will last though as they are too reliant on other people, and just like other teen sensations, their fan-base will grow out of them eventually and then what?
With a group like Take That though, they write their own music so they have their own identity. One Direction are just singing generic songs that could be sung by any group of 5 boys chucked together. Unless they can break out of that mould, it won't last for them.

omfg so here we go, get ready guys.
i really love them, and idk if i love them them, but i love how tumblr shows them in the fandom. like we each have taken it to a new level, i fell in love with the guys through stories and through gifs of them and it's just hyklasdf the feels man.
i really love liam, he is so adorable and cute and nice and caring and ugh, and he love danielle which is adorable and she's nice but then there is zayn, who looks like he's in love with liam but liam isn't getting it and it's just heartache okay, so then he takes his sexual frustration out on harry or niall who welcome it cause that's what friends do, right, and ik about the larry stuff but harry isn't rly cheating cos he feels just as bad as zayn cause louis with eleanor and it's just a mess of sexual frustration with them all, bless them all x
and ik it's probs all in our heads but i don't care, i ship ziam more than i do myself with air okay ok
like i can't even imagine my life without shipping now
like i can't even
i think liam and zayn are really great singers, i don't care for their overall songs tbh tho cause it isn't really my style, ofc it's aimed at young teen girls which i'm not and yh

and it just breaks my heart because he is so in love with liam and liam is just so cruel to just be all happy with danielle and just neglect his best friend
like there have not been any ziam moments in forever, there has been an unhealthy drought
and he is just pictured with danielle all everywhere and then we see zayn looking like a sexy hobo in rugged clothes, all torn, and it's cos of liam, i just know it
but liam just doesn't get it and it's all ugh
like i don't want zayn to give up hope on him and liam
i mean i know how painful it is to ship ziam but damn
this is zayn
and he is part of ziam
and if it kills us can you just imagine how he feels

I'll bring some realism here, cannot stand them (not on a Bieber level- but close). Their music is manufactured by a bunch of songwriters and producers and they get the credit for the artist, when all they do is be the puppets of Cowell whilst millions of delusional teens go crazy over them for being the best band EVARR. Pretty disappointing what music has accumulated to but that's just my opinion. :)

cheryl cole listenable omg hahahahaha or maybe tolerable because she's fit? same with one direction. they both get by on looks, one direction for the females (males too ofc), cheryl cole primarily for the males and they both mine too. you could argue you like cheryl's music but it's just the same as one direction. people genuinely like them and why not? they're not BAD singers like jedward/cheeky girls/chico etc
also don't see the problem with getting your record deals through x-factor, there have been successful and talented artists who got known through x-factor and would be unheard of without it :S people busk in the streets, get spotted through youtube videos etc too it's just the same.
eh people have different tastes we just have to accept that even if you don't like them

You make it sound as if they spent years playing clubs in the underground before finally getting a record deal lol. You do not have to come from the X-Factor to be manufactured. Listening to them has everything to do with it because you imply that's a reason they're bad when many of the artists you admire are exactly the same. Let's just put it into perspective unless it's still hard to understand.
Their music is manufactured by a bunch of songwriters and producers - go ahead and check the credits on all three of those artists' latest album. I know it happens for Rihanna, I don't know about the others but her label organises "writing camps" (you can actually read an article about it here (http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2011/07/05/137530847/how-much-does-it-cost-to-make-a-hit-song?ps=cprs)) where a group of writers and producers get flown out and they get paid to write the album over a couple of weeks, then Rihanna comes in afterwards and records it. They pay tens of thousands of dollars for lyrical gems such as; "I love it I love it I love it when you eat it (x8)" and "cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake cake"
when all they do is be the puppets of Cowell whilst millions of delusional teens go crazy over them - need I even say anything? Replace "Cowell" with the respective labels of Britney, Rihanna and Cheryl, and there you have it.
Same thing. I just think you don't like One Direction and are looking for reasons to make them look bad.

Exactly my point. Their song that's what makes you beautiful got the song of the year or something award wise and it just reminded me of every other boyband love song.
I can understand why people like them but it's not for me. I like proper music, not a group thrown together without really any input. It seems people who wan't to be an artist these day's like to take the fast track to stardom. I do like the unheard artists out there fighting to survive with their own style, image and voice. There are some amazing artists who rarely get radio time and definitely deserve it.

I know you post this comment a while ago but
if you actually looked at the booklet inside their album they are credited for 3 out of the 13 songs on their normal album (not the limited edition one) and they did actually help to write them 3 songs. Yes its still a small percentage of the actual album, but at least they've been honest about the songs they did and didn't write unlike a few well known artists :')

Personally, I can't stand them. I actually prefer Justin Bieber because I believe he's an alright person, but with One Direction they seem just arrogant and cocky. Their music isn't too my taste either.
Other people can like them (mainly all the young teenage girls and my mother), but once they start spouting on about how they're the best boy band ever and how they'll be together for years and years, that's what annoys me :)

They're alright now. At first they seemed like a younger version of The Wanted, not knowing what their genre is or what angle to take on the boy band stance. Now they seem to be okay. Not sure why they are so famous though, it seems more based on looks than voice.

I do not like them. They're OK, but there are people better than them and they really just get by on looks. Though the main reason I dislike them (and others like Justin Bieber) is mostly because of the fanbase they generate who are incapable of hearing anything but praise for the band or w/e they like because they are that obsessed. Well that and their music genre is one which I rarely listen to.

I don't like them and one of the reasons is their fans, fantasizing to marry any one of them and getting crazy over them (i've seen one of the students in my school having a bunch of 1d pics on her table). And their music are not really that good, not my cup of tea :/ I have other boy bands that i love like OneRepublic, The Script , well at least it's based on voice and not how good they look.

it's not debatable, it's just musical snobbery. whitney houston never wrote any of her songs. neither did elvis presley. it's pretty outlandish to say that music is only deemed 'proper' when the artist have majority input. to say that discredits the hard work of those behind artists (such as songwriters, producers, composers, etc.), especially if they don't desire or can't become artists themselves.

It's debatable to me. People class stuff differentially. For example some people claim dubstep isn't music it's just noise and to some people that is true. I don't think its music snobbery it's just an opinion and in my opinion comparing the king of rock Elvis to One Direction is wrong in my opinion - he may have not wrote any of his own songs (don't know much about him) but he played instruments worked hard etc (not saying One Direction aren't hard works though).
My point is one Direction to me just feels like the next JLS. A band just bringing out stuff the same as the last band just for another generation. That's What Makes You Beautiful could have had any other boy band singing it, it just felt like the ultimate standard boy band song and it got the song of the year award.
I'm quite glad the x factor are allowing songwriters to perform their own stuff these days, play a guitar etc. but I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to dictate stuff to them, how to look, what to sing, changes to make them more modern etc. It's all about making money really and sometimes in my opinion that comes at the cost of the performers own identity.
Obviously all I am saying is my opinion - I'm not claiming it's a fact. There are some great songwriters out there writing stuff for many people many who won't be anywhere near as famous as those singing it.

Please, I'm not defending One Direction as credible, ultra-talented and game changing musicians. I'm just saying there is absolutely no such thing as "real" music. In response to your dubstep example, technically all music is noise.
Playing an instrument doesn't define someone as a "real" musician either, a talented vocalist, rapper or producer can be more influential and talented than someone who does play instruments. Elvis was hardly a virtuosic guitar player, he wasn't known for that. I adore Elvis but he is the King for different reasons. In fact I'm pretty sure I've seen a picture of a One Direction gig where one of them is playing guitar anyway.
Of course they are just the latest fad moulded for money, and evidently it's working. The point is there is absolutely no such thing as "real" or "proper" music.

Noun:
The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
What One Direction produces is music. You're trying to debate the credibility of their music and whether the fact they are manufactured to the core demeans their status as musicians. It's still music whichever way you r opinion sways on that matter.

People do use real music these days as an opinion though - It's not what I'd call music but obviously yeah it's music.
I don't mind them and their songs can be quite catchy, but I'm not obsessed.

I think I've heard 2 songs by them, yes, they were catchy. Wouldn't pay for their music or even take the time to download it and I can't say I've ever typed them into Youtube or Spotify either.
Are they all dating a US Disney girl? Anyways, no they aren't attractive, well maybe if you're a 14 year old girl :P And no, I couldn't get all fangirly over them as they are just too cheesey and for use of a better word 'gay.' (There really needs to be a better descriptive word there, because clearly they aren't gay but you know what I mean :P )
Best boyband in the world? Seriously, these boys have never heard real music from real boybands. They need to venture back a few decades and lose their cheese!

Not a fan at all. But then again not my type of music.

It annoys me that they dress like they're ten years older than they are
