View Full Version : Needle! Ahhh :P
Haha thought I'd share with you my little personal story for today
I went to a GUM Clinic (Sexual health clinic) in Coventry for a HIV test, for basically piece of mind :).. When I got there did the information filling, called in by the nurse. Did the blood test..
Inserts the needle, "Oooh I don't think we got the vein" .... great :/ lol then she went to take it out and suddenly I hear a sound like the needle explode like a loud suck sound.. and she's like "Ooooh I did get blood, must have caught it on the way out"... **** me did it hurt after :P
My arms still like dead hours after, got a nice bruise and you can see where the needle slipped in my arm when she took it out (which she didn't tell me about at the time)
Any of you have a fear of needles (like I do) or like.. missed veins or weird stuff like my situation happening? :)

I have a fear of needles, they make me feel physically sick and faint. The thought of having to sit there while they say they can't find the vein must be horrible. Cringe.

went for a blood test once to check if i was anaemic and she couldn't find my vein. she stuck the needle in and sorta wiggled it around. made my arm go numb and i could feel the needle in my arm.

I went for a blood test for the fist time a few weeks ago to see if I was diabetic.. I actually loved it. When they finished I asked them to take more blood because I loved the feeling of it xD
But I bet waiting for them to find a vein is so fustrating!

The last time I had any kind of needle in my arm was April 2009... I had the booster injection for tetanus, diphtheria, and polio. I was honestly so scared beforehand... it was on my mind for weeks. When I finally got to the doctor's office, I was quizzing her... would I be able to wear my jumper? Would I be able to shower? Would it hurt? She said that it would "feel something like this..." and jabbed it in me. It was done, and it felt nothing more than a quick bee sting. I don't think I mind them now!

I get slightly anxious, but it never usually fusses me greatly. I can't recall having that many anyway - my last one was a DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio) jab in 2011 and that didn't feel bad tbh.

Zak; ah you remind me of last year.
Basically, in July 2011 I needed an operation on my teeth to remove the bases of the crowns I had before they broke, I refused to have it under the normal needle at the dentist so required to go to the hospital. On my induction thing the doctor said I had good veins so shouldn't have a problem when the day came round. I got my appointment and went and everything, they called me in and they had ran out of that stuff they put on your hand to numb it so you can't feel the needle going in.
Anyway, they tried, I screamed the place down and my mum was crying in the waiting room, they found no vein so they had to try my other arm, again they found no vein. This continued and after about 7 attempts in different places they had the nerve to say 'should we just give you the needles in the mouth' come on? If I was going to have that done I would have gone to my proper dentist who is actually nice. So I said no and they told me they would have one more attempt at it - luckily that attempt was a success and I had the operation but afterwards I went home and had all pin *****s in my arms where the needles had been. I couldn't even hug my boyfriend I was in so much pain, they took ages to heal up too!
However, when I went to sleep for the operation 2 years previous they used the numbing cream, found the vein straight away and such it just goes to show 9the above operation was just sedation so I wasn't properly asleep).
My HPV jabs hurt though, I could feel it go in each time and touch my bone, it ached for days and I couldn't lift it, same for my Polio jab too!

Ohhhh bless Sam! I still can't move my arm very well, HIV test is like a blood test but like a vacuum bigger needle :P Normally it's just like a normal blood test but when they **** it up OUCH! Feel sorry for the several stabs though, I've had that before. I've even had a blood test, then got told I needed another one straight after because they missed something so had to have another one in my other arm :P

Haha yeh! I had to have Hepatitis A and Typhoid about a month ago because I'm going to Egypt. I was quite worried because last time I had something like that was in school and it hurt.. i went and it didn't hurt at all :P I was like... well that was easy. Couldn't lift my arm very high after tho :P

And yeh I'm scared of them but not that scared.. my hands just get a little sweaty.. I hate the thought of it in my arm.. it's just.. unnatural :P

Well my last Blood test I ended up crying my eyes out before hand and that was only last year
The worst thing that happened dealing with needles was at the dentist
I had to have a filling in my tooth and the guy put the injections in but I didn't realised he had made a mistake because I was so upset and stressed about having it I didn't notice
but yeah when I was in the chair after the injections took effect he told me to raise my hand if I felt any pain
He went to do my tooth and I felt an immense pain shoot through my mouth and I raised my hand and he totally ignored it
Turns out he had put the injections on the wrong side but still continued to put the filling in my tooth even though it was evident (me putting my hand up) that I was in pain :L
Yeah we changed dentists after that :')
the worst needles are the ones in your mouth cause urghhhh I had the 3 normal ones when having my tooth extracted but then I had to have 3 mores because I could still feel him removing it and even then I could still feel it... He had to stop the procedure because I was in hysterics (I was crying so much he couldn't see my mouth as I was literally sobbing :L) but yeah he continued and now I have no tooth :')

I HATE needles ever since I was in hospital when I was younger, the nurse couldn't find a vein 4 times. Was proper nasty and I've hated them ever since. I feel physically sick every time I have to have an injection, most recently when I had my operation I had local anaesthetic in my toe that hurt like absolute **** and i just cried :(

I don't mind injections in my mouth for fillings.
Had a blood test a while back and I was so nervous, it only hurt a little bit but I worried myself to death before I had it. Afterwards the bit where the needle went in was all bruised and I felt a bit weak (dunno if that's normal).
All these stories about the nurses not being able to find the vein makes me feel ill :(

I'm fine with needles as long as I don't look while at them EVER (I can't even look before/after the blood/test has been taken!!!!)
I guess I got kinda put off when I went into hospital this one time when a needle fully inside my knee. I knelt on a pair of curtains and I didn't even see it go in. My mum thought I was just making a fuss and made me go on a weekend away (four walks) before we finally got home and she reluctantly agreed to take me up to hospital :S and it didn't help because when they took the drip thing in my arm that time it took the nurse four attempts to hit a vein and my arm was just purple for a week afterwards...

I use to keep telling friends that they are going to scrape the needle against a bone *shivers*. When I had to have an operation years back they couldn't find a vein so I had to be gassed in the end. I have a slight fear of needles but I fear it more before hand and when I get there I'm fine.

Never have done, never will do I dare say. The worst person I saw at school feinted and ended up going off in an ambulance... I can just watch them put it in and do whatever they need to do without flinching.

I absolutely HATE needles. The latest injections I had were for a toenail op, and they injected me twice, waited about a hour, kept seeing if it was numb and then decided to give me another one. During that hour she asked repeatedly if I normally had sweaty feet, to which I replied that I normally don't, and I'm at a loss to why you trying to stick a needle into my toe may make my feet sweat.
Before that I had 9 injections in 2 sessions for teeth out but that's it. I actually refused a blood test when I went into hospital with a suspected apendacitus (is that spelt right?) to the doctors dismay.
So basically I really don't like needles :)

Used to fear needles when i was little and i'm still scared of them now, but just a little bit. Nothing is worse than getting your tooth pulled out :/

Aak reminds me when I was having ingrown tonails removed from my big toes, local anaesthetic in my big toes, needle scraping past the bones, I was literally crying in agony.
Anyway, in general im not too bothered about needles, never have had any jabs or anything ever, only real time I've had to put up with needles is going for operations on teeth. I probably would faint if they took blood sample tho as I'm 100% haemophobic ;(

You should be a doctor nor a farmer.
Midnight; I'm sure theres a thing whereby you can still feel pain with a type of anaesthetic and they use a different one? I could be wrong.
I find if i worry myself for dentist needles it helps, the last two times I've been I relaxed myself and yeah I didn't feel the needle at all but I felt them working in my mouth. Can't win.
I'm not scared of needles but some of your stories sound nasty

For which scenario are you talking about? The one where the Dentist put the injections in the wrong side or the tooth extraction?

I've never had a needle where they had to get it in a vein, only just ones at the top of my arm.
I'm actually fine with them, as long as I'm not looking. When I see people get needles or even on TV I get so uncomfortable.
Only time I've been scared really was in year 7 we were getting some, we were all fine until one of the boys got his and then fainted. It set of like a chain reaction one girl who was already nervous started crying and then another started crying and so on until all of us girls were crying. But then we got them and were all fine and sat there laughing about how silly we were for all crying.
Until a few weeks ago I was TERRIFIED of needles! Then I went to have the operation, they shoved it in my hand and it's fine, I don't find them scary now really. I could probably go as far as saying I actually liked it...
