The Dutch Defence Ministry sent two F-16 fighters to intercept a Vueling airplane thought to be carrying hostages on board that was bound for Amsterdam's Schiphol airport from Malaga, Dutch website nu.nl reported on Wednesday.

Neither Schiphol airport nor the Dutch Defence Ministry were immediately available to comment. A Vueling spokeswoman could not confirm the report.

Seems like it was miscommunication - Probably the wrong squawk code or something on the lines of that.

Even though the company says its a miscommunication the Police are still searching the aircraft:

Schiphol airport says police are now on board Vueling plane and are searching the aircraft

Update:

Dutch police say Schiphol plane was not hijacked, confirm there was miscommunication

This escalated and de-escalated quickly :P Poor Schipol airport, first a bomb scare from an old, unexploded World War II bomb and then a false alarm on a plane hijacking. At least it proves they can work quickly if and when a problem arises.

Hard day for Sciphol, who'd have thought it was possible to have such bad luck in 24 hours :P Well handled all round I guess.
