View Full Version : HabboxLive - Couple of ideas

DJ Smurf and myself were speaking about some of the issues at HxL, its not only down to the sheer number of slots not being booked, its also down to the ever decreasing number of listeners we have as the name of habbox is being lost in the distance. It is true they have picked up since HxSS, but I wouldn't say it was a great improvement.

We were thinking about habbo and what people enjoy within habbo. A party room is already under construction thanks to Wigan and Jimmerh. And yes there are already events from the events team (which can also generate listeners if the radio is advertised during these events). But we don't have one thing which I know a lot of people use on Habbo... A casino.

A casino for HxL listeners to go to and bet to their hearts content. Not only would this generate new listeners and people to tune in by getting the name out of a new trusted casino under the name of habbox. But it could also generate a profit that could contribute to big monthly events with prizes etc. that are all based around HxL. Also this may help with the use of rare values as values are always needed in a casino environment.

We just wanted your opinions, but please don't be too rude. We are just wondering who would actually want to use a casino and whether you think it would work to generate a new amount of listeners that we previously may not have had.

Also if you have any other suggestions that would be fantastic :)

moderation and scammers are the key reasons a habbox(live) casino wont happen

BEST IDEA IN THE WORLD! :P lol.... This would be a good way to get a room that is regularly used to get the habbox name out once again...:D

I Think it's a good Idea, It could take planning people could trade glitch and start shouting out scam in the room which could also give Habbox a bad name it works both ways, so it's a decision good but would need some planning if it was to happen :)

Everything needs planning, you can't just randomly do things and think yep, there we go, LOL.

Hmm, swear a casino has being tried before, unless it was somewhere else. I remember when we had -danube-s' casino and I sometimes took listeners there, but a lot of the listeners at Habbox genuinely can't afford to bet, like seriously. Not a bad idea, but then moderation & scamming could be a problem.

It's a shame some of the old DJs' who did awesome shows of good quality and actually read requests & shoutouts aren't around anymore. I've tuned into a few people and they don't know how to DJ - sorry no other way to put it. They can't change between songs and backing tracks, their microphones are bad quality and sometimes even their songs are bad quality. Shame the standard has decreased majorly in the last year or so.

Theres not a new manager yet is there? Shame ,Jess, wasn't more active - when she was manager everything seemed to run smooth. Although I'm sure there are other suitable HxL managers - Grig comes to mind.

I'm pretty sure that GM are going to take over for a while. And I do agree with you about the DJs and microphones etc. I do believe Logan requested a practice radio for v7 so hopefully that is something that is brought in so that people can practice with the management or something to find out how to improve?

Yeah that'd be a good idea to have a practice radio, so they can do a show or 2 before they are allowed on air and they can get properly trained - it isn't hard to change between songs/backing tracks. Would be good if GM take over for awhile until they can find someone to dig HxL out of the hole it's in. Theres only a few good DJs' atm - Jade, Jas & Richie are the only ones that come to mind - only ones I've heard.

Would be good if manager(s) actually trained the DJs' if they aren't up to scratch, letting DJs' on air that have no idea what they're doing is crazy. Anyways just my idea - more perm shows is a good idea too as well as giveaways which I know you're doing Jade ;)

You ought to see my notepad.. LOL scribbled on to death with perm show ideas, got about 12 in total for DJs to pick from. And I want to get giveaways happening at least once a month, maybe based on DJs input and donates? But something that would help a lot. And then the kind of giveaway I'm doing twice a year or something? As it is very very expensive.. LOL

Firstly, I have to say the name of Habbox wouldn't lost if DJs were making the effort. I'm not going to lie here, the DJs seem to go on air, speak after 2 songs and are just so monotone. They're always down in the help desk sleeping and going AFK, then just say get down to the help desk - where all the listeners already are anyway because they come from Habbox.

Why don't you go party in a public room or make a guest room or something. That's the whole idea and I really don't know how that's died out since last year when it was actually happening. If you think you're going to get listeners from partying in the help desk, dancing and AFKing you're seriously deluded.

This would be a good idea, but first you'd need to do some things. Speak to xxMATTGxx or Inseriousity. and make sure this doesn't breach the Fansite Way in any way. Then you're going to need Mike's permission to create the room and make it an official Habbox/HabboxLive room.

Even if it's not against the fansite way, you're most likely going to have to confirm with with PaulLaFo or Jason_Fansites as they may not like the idea and decide to randomly take action, seeming it's never really been done before.

Then you need to put in account what kind of listener base you want and if casino users are actually going to listen to Habbox. It's all good and well getting people to come bet etc. but then when it comes to actually getting people to tune in, where's the plan there? I don't see where it can really link in tbh - unless you do "tune in for the code get one free bet", but then that's ridiculous.

Trying to give a blunt and honest truth, so don't feel as though I'm being rude. :)

Yeah not twice a year. Don't think Habbox has seen a general giveaway of that size (only been some junk giveaways and a throne once I believe, whereas you've put in a lot of money, over 2k credits?) - nevermind just for Habboxlive. If you get GM to make it a 'big deal' cause it is a big deal, maybe make an announcement or something about it and give it heaps of publicity then it could potentially increase the users on HxF and listeners at Habboxlive.

Giveaways at least a month is a good idea, but the trouble is funding them. I mean you could have smaller giveaways every month, then a large scale giveaways every 3 months or something, which would give you time to build up. Perm shows are vital, I remember when I first joined - and now the only time I genuinely tune into the radio to listen to something is Richies dubstep/electro show.

Perm shows are a great idea, I mean if you can incorporate giveaways into perm shows - like who wants to be a millionaire or deal or no deal sorta thing it'd be a huge success. Increase listeners on the forum and not cost that much - give away a few prizes and so forth.

I'm currently working on some big game rooms - like deal or no deal, wheel of fortune, who wants to be a millionaire along with some other people, so once they get done they can be used by HxL to increase listeners and so forth. What perm show ideas did you have?

Tempted to come back to Habboxlive tbh, amg.

Yeah I agree 100%: This is basically all my ideas, and perm show ideas in a nutshell hereee:

• Guide on all different ideas of events that could be done whilst on air
• Weekly Shows – See List
• Monthly events – See List
• Monthly small scale giveaways
• Party in a public room instead of HxHD (be careful for people not to spam)
• Dead slots? – Fill with pre-recorded shows or just non-stop music, and if a DJ wants to go on and book they can still do so.
• Bring together events and the news department with HxL – panel features for events, on air news feed once a week in a news show – See Weekly Shows
• Staff bonding once a month – skype calls, habbo fun times, draw something, online popcap games etc.etc.
• Throughout the hour competitions to keep listeners tuned in the whole time rather than the ten minutes a normal competition lasts. Like a guessing game.
• Radio to practice on and improve DJ skills (pretty sure Logan requested this)

And Perm Show Ideas:

Habbox Presents... This Weeks Official Top 20! - Sunday 7-9pm
Every week radio channels such as Radio 1 and Capital present the official Top 40 in the UK, well now is time for Habbox to present these to the listeners. This show would be either a single DJ or double DJ show in which the DJ(s) will work their way down the chart from 20 to 1. To make it more interesting you could have competitions involving the chart, such as who was at what number, and if they weren’t tuned it they can always check the Radio 1 website etc. The only issue is sometimes artists are featured more than once in these charts… But hopefully seeing as its official it shouldn’t matter.

HabboxLive Top 10 – A one hour show somewhere
Although the Top 20 could pretty much cover this, there aren’t certain songs that the listeners love and always want to hear even though they aren’t in the charts. This is where this show comes in! A whole hour dedicated to the most played and most listened to songs on the HabboxLive radio!

HabboxLive Rocks! –CAN BE DONE WITH ALL GENRES OF MUSIC
From your Avenged Sevenfold to your Linkin’ Park, there are some amazing rock bands out there that maybe a lot of the DJs just don’t have the time to play! For this one hour show you can flip that hair back and forth and raise those signs of the horns! HabboxLive does ROCK!
(I presume that DJ Alistair would want to do this)

The Hotel Is Alive With The Sound Of Habbox… – A one hour show somewhere
All the great films have fantastic music to match! From your Twilight to your Hairspray there are a million and one songs all sung every day! So say Hakuna Matata and tune in for this one hour special dedicated to your favourite movie soundtracks!

It Must Be Love… – A one hour show somewhere
A whole hour dedicated to those great love songs. Presented by two DJs preferably for the lovey dovey atmosphere. From Donny Osmond to Justin Bieber, all great artists sing about finding love. And these are the songs that will melt your heart and make you want to cuddle up with your closest Habbo friend.

NewsBeat - A one hour show somewhere
A one hour show consisting not only of the greatest tunes but also of the week’s hottest news from the Habbox News Department.

HabboxLive Club Anthems – A one hour show somewhere
From Ibiza to Marbella, club anthems are getting everyone wearing their dancing shoes! For this one hour show the DJ will be presenting you with the top club and dance tunes to get your Habbo feet on the move!

Bringing Back The Oldies – A one hour show somewhere - SMURF
Anyone remember the 70s, even the 80s? Probably not… But our parents say it was filled with amazing music! This hour is dedicated to all those songs that we call the oldies. Sit back and enjoy the music from the 70s all the way through to the late 90s! From Queen to the Spice Girls this show will have you singing all the way back down memory lane!

HabboxLive: Remix Show (need a witty name) – A one hour show somewhere
An hour of your favourite tunes but made even better with back to back remixed songs.

I’ve also spoken to Gina about doing the weekly Quiz again, and hopefully this is something that can be brought back as when I have spoken to people in HxHD this is something they said they do enjoy.

Yeah, all those shows look pretty good ;)

Dead slots is the main reason, need more applications and more DJs'. Year or so ago you would struggle to get slots when you wanted them as there were so many DJs who constantly booked and did their minimum. Now look at it, I barely ever see the radio online. Really sad.

Yeah I know, I was speaking with captainace about it and she thought the radio should be focused on being on from like 10am-Midnight, which I didn't agree with as we do have DJs who come on at say 7am as they are international etc. But I mean we should really focus on getting not only the slots booked but the listeners up and they really do go hand in hand together.

Really interested in seeing this happening if the News department are up for it, even as a trial. I don't know how well it will perform however when Grig did news flashes a couple of years ago it was far more enjoyable just because of his enthusiastic nature. It gets the News department out there further if there's any volunteers.

I'll reply properly later.

Yeah, peak slots are the main ones that need to be filled - but off-peak slots also need to be sorted. Need more DJs applying.

As for the casino itself I am not too sure on it as I think it's more based on the quality of the shows that listeners will be more interested it (Not saying rooms shouldn't be made just that bringing entertainment music wise is one of the DJs key aims).

Yeah I understand, I think Smurf didn't think of the ideas just set for HxL I think it was more set out to help Habbox as a whole..

I get where you are coming from :P

Also like the idea of filling up the empty slots with music - as long as it wasn't be on a really small playlist I think it would be fine.
But we shouldn't need that idea if we get more DJs like JerseyShore; said!!

I think the DJs need to advertise more in their shows about the jobs, only a certain amount do, and this should be done on the forum as well, but the more listeners we get hopefully the more DJs we will gain too. TBH the peak time slots are slowly improving and that but its the midnight - 10am slots that are the problem, and then sometimes during the day till like say 5pm? But they will improve if we can get the djs to become more dedicated and what not. I'm sure we can focus more on the djs realising they will gain points etc. from doing slots and that. there is that reward system in place and I love that I am doing slots for a reason other than to entertain the listeners.

Aw thanks for the kind words :). I was going to do a news show when at news last time, but left and never happened. Then I was getting together perm shows from people, I had a whole lineup, then a few quit even before I had the opportunity to speak to them and whatnot. I didn't have a lot of control back then.

It's also basically new unique ideas. I was planning a call-in game-show type of thing and an hour of laughs on a Friday, as well as a monthly gossip show like E! News or ET on all things gossip in Habbox and Habbo. Sadly I left and none of these new ideas materialized. My aim was for more materialistic stuff, as well as entertainment. So we would have had regular scheduled giveaways maybe once a week- also probably in the form of a perm show etc.

I don't mind developing some of these ideas further is general management want, so that they can then make it a reality, as well as doing that news show. Got nothing better to do atm :P.

See that was something I wrote down for like the monthly events was like call in events, obviously it would have to be approved, like a Mr & Mrs kind of style show or a couples quiz on valentines.. and just bringing on people from other departments to do things such as rare values, news etc. There are hundreds of ideas its just getting them to become reality.

That's the problem, nothing ever got put through recently. It took ages for me to actually argue and then put through HxStarz, then I was disappointed to see how it was planned. I'd blame myself, I should have given them a more concrete plan and set of criteria before I left!

Anything that makes the DJs more dedicated would be grand - going back to your idea with the automatic DJ for slots that aren't booked I have literally just realized that lets say (hopefully now that we are getting ideas it shouldn't happen) for example let's say there was around 6 slots unbooked all in the same row - I wouldn't want to be listening to a automatic DJ because personally a DJ should be on and I feel like if it's automatic it wouldn't be much of a radio (More like a itune playlist you never made) because it's the DJ who makes you feel connected.

I think if they connected more (as you stated more advertising and perm shows) it would deffo be a turn for the better!

All of these ideas are excellent and what HabboxLive needs is to reconnect with the community. We need to find something that will attract listeners to the radio, making them want to revisit reguarly. I love the idea of bringing back perm shows, we need more things like a homerun show when people get in from school, Chart shows, themed shows etc. I think the radio just needs to have a bit of a shake up, new DJ's, perm shows etc.

In general, it just needs some stability if you ask me, it's had far too many management changes this year, and I think the next HabboxLive Manager needs to be someone in it long term.

These are some great ideas. Just saying, if i could come back to HxL as a guest DJ i'm willing to host the UK Top 20 on Sunday 2pm - 4pm maybe since i had experience hosting it for several weeks or months i don't remember. But the only problem is i can't do a double dj show because of my internet. So yeah.

why not make it a HabboxLive chart thing, where people can actually get involved and vote for their fav. songs in a vote. This would make it more unique and get people to interact with the music they like at present. Plus it would be more globally represented.

I thought she'd sent you the news clips, I'd record something/go on air but am not here today. Might have to give it a miss and just go straight into my idea, without testings :/

I think there is a way you can do that through youtube, but not 100%... Tbh, it may not even be allowed in the fansite rules.. it was just a simple idea to get other types of people invovled. :)

tbh i think you should have like chat shows sorta thing (idk if this has already been suggested)

the main reason because of the low listeners is because people don't like what they're listening to, like i contstantly hear members saying "this is why i never tune into hxl" when big events are on and stuff. i know hxl is a radio and radio is basically music but i think you need to broadcast to the older members too, because not all of them are interested in winning prizes or listening to cheesy music.

i think hxl just needs to find the correct balance because making new shows that are more professional (like chat shows or something idk) can really help and not only attract the younger users.

i'm not sure if a party room can help because there used to be loads in the past and they mainly attracted certain users, a casino could be quite useful and that will definitely involve different kinds of users (if it gets popular), i suppose its worth a shot :)

I really like the idea of having a few shows back in place, hopefully it would give the HxL a bit of structure. At the moment, a listener coming to the site wouldn't really know what to expect at a certain time, you just get what's played for you. A few genre specific (Indie Hour, Rock on Wednesdays etc.) or themed shows (like chat, quizzes etc.) would attract the right listeners at the right times, especially as they'd expect their favourite show at its usual time.

The only other thing I'd chip in is a bit of a stronger social presence. I know Habbox has a twitter, and the station even has its own Facebook page but that's never utilised any more. We could net a few listeners from Facebook who are a bit bored with a simple post "Hey! It's Happy Hour, where your requests control the show" or whatever. I'd love to see us reach out a bit more on the networks.

For the Casino you could use Ross' if you end up looking into one! But regarding trust issues and scamming, you could put an alert when they enter the room with a link to a Habbox page which contains a tutorial on how to record their screen when betting someone and uploading it to YouTube, so then they could submit that to one of the room moderators and the user who scammed would be dealt with but also make it known that Habbox is not responsible for any scamming that goes on.

Interaction on the hotel will bring in numbers but we need to get people to tune in first. Only a few months back I did win 100 rares on habboxlive, the room was max'd out, everyone was having fun, felt like the older days. I don't think we should focus on making casinos to draw in listeners, it's a casino, people who bet go to bet not tune into a radio station. I was thinking we could all chip in to our own rooms and in a 10 hour span we could do '10 hours, 1000 rares' every hour we give away one room of 100 rares. People say constant competitions isn't the way to get listeners, I don't believe that. I believe if we host constant competitions with high standards of djing within those shows, the numbers will raise. If I was told I could win 100 rares I'd tune into habbox for the rares but if the djing was low standard and boring, I wouldn't be coming back. There's no point in us hosting tonnes of competitions if our djing isn't up to standard.

Not sure who's taking over habboxlive but when someone does I hope they try something like a 2 week trial of something like radio scripts. It doesn't have to contain word for word but know what you're going to say, I go on sometimes and talk out of my arse because I haven't planned anything. I don't think people tune in to hear a teenager telling them what song was just played. We need some structure. I noticed since Logan left a lot of people seem to be going into their childish ways and unbooking slots. I hope management are keeping an eye on this, each dj has to pre-book a minimum of 2 slots a week.

See that's why i want to try and get these events going and a giveaway every month, including the event i'm doing 23rd september, 24 hour give-aways, on air comps through the hour not just for ten minutes. I don't think there should be a set script but maybe something like a list or bullet points of all the things that should/could be mentioned. When Smurf brought the casino idea forward to me I did think yeah its a good idea but it could have implications but at the same time you would hope that they may want to tune in. And thankfully GM are taking over and Mike has already asked me about the warnings etc. so I know for sure it will be watched.

Having planned shows that have been listed in this thread seems to be one of the main ways to go. We also need the interaction on Habbo to grab any new potential listeners and users of the Habbox fansite. This can be definitely done without going into rooms and spamming the URL of our websites. I like the idea of chipping in for other peoples events/giveaways. I probably have some stuff that I could donate towards those as well.

Now onto the casino idea... I remember this was suggested in the past within the past 12 months or so? Wasn't connected to HabboxLive though and I do believe we said no for valid reasons that we didn't want to be held responsible for anything that happens within that room.

In terms of Twitter and Facebook - That won't be a problem. If you want a specific thing being posted onto those then just give us a shout.

Now who is managing HabboxLive? At the moment it will be managed by Inseriousity. who is dealing with the community side of things while I manage the technical parts of HabboxLive. Although it's not really that technical but Mike said he doesn't like doing that or have a clue. This will be until we have decided who is fit enough to manage the department into the future.
