mrwoooooooo

People who buy out contracts just to have the latest toy are idiots.

I'll be waiting for the bset android phone when my contract runs out ^^

The fact that people are saying 'omg i want this so bad' etc without even knowing anything about the phone is the most annoying part

Why would you commit yourself to buying a product that you don't know anything for sure about and has not even been announced officially by the manufacturer? Seems totally illogical to me.

hoping it's not too expensive. didn't bother getting the 4s because the differences (compared to the 4) were meh, so hoping this will persuade me to upgrade.

Not had an iPhone since the iPhone 3 thats been worth keeping, really hoping this will be decent enough to get, If the leaks are correct the hardware looks nice, but its down to he software, don't really want the old apps letterboxing.

The pictures seem decent, but for years now these events have not been as good as they used to. There's only so many times they can release the same product over and over again, and I mean that by the under the hood stuff getting drowned out by Apple conferences showing pictures of the phone from the front, and I would hope we've all become accustomed to what the iPhone looks like now :P

Hardware wise, it's just upgrades and as with any piece of tech what's on the inside is going to be out of date soon after or even before the phone is on the market. Looks and features are all people care about, and as iOS6 is already out - the features aren't going to be the focus. The phone hasn't really got much going for it, other than over-excited fans and a rumoured, larger screen. These events only excite iPhone users, they very seldom appeal to the tech world in general.

Really hope people know that they're paying for a BRAND, for what the phone actually is the price is daylight robbery. I'm an iPhone user myself so before I get the old "your'e just jealous you don't have one" I do lol just not overly fussed.

hamheyelliot
07-09-2012, 03:34 PM
Doesn't really seem like the kind of iPhone the entire tech world can get excited about any more. I'm basing this all around speculation of course, but at the moment it's the slightly improved iPhone for people with iPhones. I'm an Android user, not a fanboy - but there's not much classic Apple innovation going on any more, which is a little disappointing.

HotelUser

I have two options to get an iPhone 5:

A) Go on a three year contract to get one, which is $50 a month and I only get 500mb down

B) Buy one for an off contract price (and I think that's expensive)

So instead I bought an unlocked used iPhone 4s, and I'm eagerly awaiting the downfall of North American phone carriers :)

Passbook is next. This is the way to collect all your passes in one place: movie tickets, airline boarding pass, coupon, store card with a balance, ticket for a concert, a ticket for a baseball game.

Shred a ticket when you're done with it.

Boarding pass automatically appears on the lockscreen when you're nearby.

This is cool.

iPhone 5 comes in all-black design with slate back, but there's a white iPhone as well, glass is white, got a bright silver aluminum finish.

Got a few questions, Rep If anyone helps answer them.

If you bought an iPhone unlocked from the apple store, what would you do to get it on a network because your not buying it from a network such as orange?

Can you buy iPhones from the Apple Store already on networks with plans, such as from orange on pay as you go in the apple store?

You would get nano sim card for whatever network you are wanting to use and insert it. In regards of your second question they had options for the previous iPhones on what plans and networks you want to be on. But you can buy an unlocked iPhone 5 for £529.

still debating either to get the phone on contract or pay as you go.

I think it's time that Apple started changing iOS. They sell millions of devices which is fantastic but they all look the same - You can't personalise them at all. I'm not on about what the actual device looks like, I'm on about what the operating system looks like.

Chippiewill

Seems like Apple is going to the rather sensible effort of separating the iPod touch from the iPhone with all those pretty colours, since currently it's just iPhone without the phone. Actually makes the various lines of Apple products more distinct from each other, I suspect this means the next iPad will be colourfied also.

The iPod Nanos are the only interesting thing to come from this event, they do look really good! Part of me thinks the practicalities of the old Nano were better than this new one though - you could wear the old one as a watch and it was actually "Nano". This seems more like a bridge in the gap between the iPod Nano and what was the Mini. The iPhone 5 is about as amazing and revolutionary as a wet fart in a pool. The extra $100 for 4 more icons on the homescreen doesn't exactly scream "buy me", but if people want to buy it then it's up to them.

Those blue boxes they use for notifications really make me cringe. They look so ugly.

Also, HTC and Samsung are apparently talking about blocking sales of iPhone 5 over LTE patents they both own (http://androidandme.com/2012/09/smartphones-2/samsung-htc-to-block-us-eu-sales-of-iphone-5-using-lte-patents/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=samsung-htc-to-block-us-eu-sales-of-iphone-5-using-lte-patents). I really hope they win this case and give Apple a taste of their own medicine.

The new headphones and adapters are surely just a ploy to get more money for their products...

And what gets me is in US you can get one for around $299 (apparently) and yet in Australia the prices will rage between $799 - $1000. Not happy tbh, i reckon i'll go with the 4S considering they will hopefully go down in price or stick with my blackberry.

By the way if you like the idea of having 4G then you need to be with EE (Everything Everywhere) which is T-Mobile and Orange combined. More information at http://ee.co.uk/.

Wanting 4G on any other network? Wait until 2013 but they will not be compatible with the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 with 4G or LTE is exclusive to EE.

$299 in the US is the cost of the handset (up front) when you sign a 2 year contract. It works out at the same price.

The Aussie prices would be pay as you go.

The iPhone 5 doesn't seem like anything special, but I upgrade in November so I'll probably be getting one. I'm also with T-Mobile, so hopefully EE's 4G is up and running by then.

The new Nanos, however, are great. I'm very tempted to preorder one tomorrow.

To conform with the extreme socialism in Europe compared to the lack of government interest in corporate affairs here:

They've made an adapter for their new proprietary connector.

Coverage Information

4G will be launching in 16 major UK cities by the end of 2012 which = 33% of the UK. Then in 2013 they will expand that to cover pretty much most of the UK.

Disgusting.

Apple isn't misadvertising anything by using their own connector, consumers know they're getting a different connector when they purchase the device, and it's their own decision to purchase the device. I'm not a fan of Apple using their own adapter but it's absolutely no governments' business as to what adapter they choose to put in their product. The thing I find disgusting here is how outrageously controlling this government is being. If the government wants a say in what features Apple includes or doesn't in their products, tell them to buy a 51% stake in it. Otherwise its none of their business.

Its good of them to do the Micro USB, helps me out with the 1000's of Micro USB to USB cables I have if I ever lose the Lightning one.

I probably won't buy the iPhone, may get it on upgrade in 4~ months as I am on t-mob, so the LTE will be nice, but I really want one of the nano's more then anything,

People who buy out contracts just to have the latest toy are idiots.

I'll be waiting for the bset android phone when my contract runs out ^^

The fact that people are saying 'omg i want this so bad' etc without even knowing anything about the phone is the most annoying part

Exactly what I was thinking. Haven't been on here the last few days due to work but was looking on my phone (s2) on the BBC News Tec bit for the information on the iPhone 5 and thought it sounded crap. However I knew people would sadly still buy it probably planning to buy it before they had the specs.

People are a sucker for a brand. Apple could release an iMicrowave or something, basically something normal but with their branding on, and the sheeps would come out and buy it.

It's decent hardware and decent software with lots of app availability. If you two clowns want to passionately convince me that (for example) The Galaxy line is better go ahead, but I'm still going to think both lines are easily comparable, and consistent for quality.

I could understand you trying to make the argument for BlackBerrys being worse (because the sale statistics, hardware and software statistics are horrendous), but you cannot without ignorance make the same argument as to why the iPhone line is bad. They do have the sales, they do have the hardware, and they most certainly have the software to shut you up and send your argument home.

I agree with you completely, they have great hardware, great software to match, and they have one of the best app stores with the largest content, I'm not going to say that android or IOS is better, but, both have pro's and cons, android is open, IOS is not.

But, you have to admit there are thousands of people out there that buy a product, simply for the shiny apple of the back of it, no matter what to cost or what little changes it makes.

There are some Microsoft software users who only use Microsoft software because it's the first thing that's shoved infront of them, and there's some Apple users who only buy Apple products for no other reason than the Apple brand appealing to them. Both companies hve two things in common in this way, decent products and successful marketing.

Another question!

Is threes network good?

I was going to buy, iPhone 5 from the apple store,

get a sim plan from three.

£15.90 a month for,
-600 minutes
- 5000 texts
- all you can eat data.

It's amazing tbh, they really have upgraded around the UK very well.

The key word here is but I'm still going to think both lines are easily comparable" - If that is true, then why the hell is apple so much more expensive.

I know people think I hate apple. I don't. I dislike how they put a much larger price on their products however, and people automatically assume because its more expensive it equals a better product. People don't compare details, specs etc. they just buy the expensive model because to them its the top. I mean people as I mentioned where planning already to buy the iPhone 5 before it was even announced.

Also can anyone confirm what the new processor is the equivlent of for other phones. I've read it's only dual core and a few phones now are quad core, not to mention no NFC which a lot of people think is the future.

To me apple has went from a leader to a follower. The iPhone in my opinion could get away at least with me with its expensive prices when it was the only real main smartphone out there but it feels like as the competition has came and fought its way in offering cheaper prices and the same if not better quality, that apple hasn't bothered trying to change. I like IOS and i'd possibly think about buying the iPhone if it was cheaper, but why pay lots of money for something when I can get the same for less.

Finally as I mentioned the reason apple makes a lot of sales is people just buy anything they make. Some obviously will check out the details but a lot don't.

Unless any networks show the prices of the phone on Pay As You Go.

Because Apple is more strict with mobile software personally I would say from my own experience (using both Android and iOS since both came out) that I find Android quite flexible but iOS much more stable. I've also yet to find an Android device with battery life that I had on my iPhone 4.

Another thing, my two year old iPhone 4 can run iOS 5 but my Nexus One cannot run ICS (cyan9 was disappointing on it too). An older iPhone plays nicer with updates then Android phones because unfortunately HTC and Samsung gets lazy and doesn't contribute to update their old phones.

These are just some reasons as to why some folks might go iOS over Android. I could easy argue in favor of Android instead because I'm an avid fan of both, but clearly some people will prefer the features of an iOS device, some will prefer Android, and some won't care about any features and just blindly buy any device they think looks pretty or that their friends own (which encompasses blackberry users and the android and iPhone users who just don't care about performance and features vs cosmetics).

When I got my iPhone 4S at the end of last year, I used Three for a month and to be honest, I've never experienced such bad signal! Really wasn't expecting it, and I only went with Three because it was cheaper. I live in London, where I'd expect to have good signal, but didn't get it. I'd get times where I'd have no Internet connection(no 3G connection) and would have 1-2 bars most of the time. However, I switched to O2 and have stayed with them since, much better signal where I am and I still pay the same price each month (I'm on PAYG).

It used to be awful, but they have upgraded all across the UK and have like the best signal ever now?
Was this recent? See above, I was with them at the end of last year when it was terrible for me.

Yeah it all comes down to personal taste I just dislike the sheeps, which you mentioned, basically those who will buy anything with an apple on it. I'd maybe consider buying an iphone 5 if it was similar price wise to the others on the market, but to me it's certainly not worth the price it's at right now.
