so pretty much all sites similar to daopay are out of the question?
LETS ALL USE ROSS' SITE WWW.SMSTOPAYPAL.COM
As you may have noticed Habbox has been unable to offer premium services for several months. This has been due to changes in UK legislation which has affected us. We have been in discussion with our solicitors and UK premium services regulator Phonepayplus but having been unable to reach an agreement and as a result we have had to remove our phone payment services.
You can still donate or purchase VIP via Paypal and we are currently working on a solution for the Christmas charity sale. Any thoughts or comments please post in Habbox Feedback.

Great idea. :D
The problem would still exist for us even with Ross' website. The problem is with the regulators, before it was free for us as we were under a limit for the amount we generate via SMS and Phone payments. However now the regulators have removed that limit so regardless of how much you earn you still need to pay for fees.

Is it not possible to set it up as a charitable organisation for Christmas, even if it wouldn't be possible for regular donator?

Not possible. A business needs to be wholly and exclusively set up for charitable purposes. Habbox donating profits once a month does not a charity make.
The Charity Act 2011 pretty much covers what a charity is, and none of the purposes of Habbox makes it a charity, as it doesn't seek to advance, improve or prevent anything. It's solely to benefit a load of teenagers as a place to chat, nothing exceptional or life changing.

I know that, but I wondered if there was something set up by the charity/an extra service which enabled this.

Hmm, not sure if the law would see a charity as a business that creates a service like this, because those who need it should be already covered by the law anyway to use these tools.
It would be easier if Habbo weren't so anti-community, Habbox might still be thriving and Habbo might actually be bearable and useable. :(

If only it was that easy
Well we are considering talking to just giving regarding Christmas and see if we can integrate habboxforum into justgiving.com
If there was a way to do it via a non-UK line, basing yourself somewhere else. Although I suspect that would have complications.

You could PM Matt or Jin with evidence you bought it and they'd sort it out. Obviously a phone statement and whatnot

Okie dokey just a quick update - as far as I'm aware we won't need this pay protection as our company won't actually be making the payment ImpulsePay will, as of yet I haven't spoke to ImpulsePay about the matter but I promise to in the next week or so. So as far as I'm aware we are still safe to go ahead, not that our legal matters would affect the well being of your site if you did choose to use our plugin :)

We arn't waiting on them, we spoke directly to ImpulsePay and they said they would get back to us. As we arn't directly handling the transactions we believe ImpulsePay will cover us, thus why we are waiting upon them, even so this isn't delaying our release, our vBulletin modification is.
Plus the fact that ImpulsePay just updated their site, which allows us to take transactions of up to £30, means we have had to change our codes again.

Whatever! Spend less time buying awful cars and more time working!
Pretty scary that got 4 +reps, never the less a bit of a update.
Other than my new car's engine is about to blow up
I'd say this is where we are at ~
Site - 100%
Forum Modification - 25%
Here is some of the information we got earlier;
http://mattgarner.net/upload/images/2012/10/15/RuEcp.gif
Vouch for Dave. / Hulk; for animation
The modification will give the forum owner's full control of what goes on, I did ask where the PayPal option is (?) but i have been assured that this modification won't touch the preserved current options (such as PayPal, what ever the rest of them are that you will most likely never use)
I believe we are only going to be doing vBulletin 3.x & 4.x, not 5.x (as of yet) due to a huge template change they recently done which resulted in 95% of the current mods for 5.x being null / not useable.
Thanks
Ross

Considering it's a new service there really is no rush at getting it on Habbox. You also don't currently know the results of our SMS Donator survey. We will have an answer on this within the next week or two.

12-02-2013, 05:13 PM
We should have a poll on whether or not management should implement it immediately, polls are legally binding.
xxMATTGxx
12-02-2013, 05:35 PM
Due to the results of the survey and the number of emails we have had with the regulatory it has been decided we will not be having a SMS service for donator on Habbox any time soon. This includes SMSToPayPal.
Ultimately the money earned < money spent.

The reason I don't really have one is because of the age restriction that you have to be at least 18, which many people on this forum, including myself, are not :P.

Not that I like encouraging people to break terms and conditions or whatever it is - They really don't check peoples age.

I got my first Paypal account when I was 13.

You really needn't worry that much about the age restriction. As Matt said, they will rarely ever check up on age (at the end of the day, if they don't check the age of every person they end up with more users on their service). As long as you don't keep too much in your account, you won't really lose that much if you are caught and they freeze it.
Tbh I think the main issue here is that quite a lot of people don't want to get PayPal solely for buying donator on Habbox, most people who probably have it use it on various sites.

The age restriction is a legal thing on Paypal's end, they only have to act on it if they find out, which they're not actively doing anyway.
