Any recommendations on what sort of tablet I could get? I don't want to spend an arm and a leg so i'll avoid apple products :P the tablet will be basically used for low end arcade games, skype and social networking.

Yeah the Nexus 7 is a good option. Love mine :D
It does like everything the iPad does, and probably better. A few specs might not be as good though, but that is to be expected. I mean it does have a Quad-Core processor [Which is technically 5, as apparently it has a low-power core too]..
You can read the full specs here. (http://www.google.com/nexus/#/7/specs)
-If you happen to get it, I suggest getting this Case and stand with it (http://www.amazon.co.uk/SD-Tabletwear-Google-Includes-Protector/dp/B008H5F3DO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349110271&sr=8-1), really cheap and amazing quality lmao.

Depends how cheap. I have a MID android which was 60 quid, can't fault it. It's obv not top spec graphics or w/e and it has appalling battery life but it does the job!!

I don't even have one but I know Nexus 7 is the answer. It'll get all the latest Android updates, it's ridiculously cheap and it's small enough to fit into a bag. As a side note, if you like Mass Effect, it's initials are N7, which always makes me smile when I see people talk about it.
