Britain faces £1BILLION bill as Eurocrats run out of money: That's our 'share' of the overspend

- European Commission to ask for budget top up after failing to balance the books
- And MEPs are expected to approve a seven per cent increase in Brussels' budget for 2013

The European Commission, headed by President Jose Manuel Barroso, says it needs the extra money to plug a shortfall

Britain faces a £1billion bill from Brussels because the European Commission has blown its budget for the year. UK taxpayers will be asked to fork out £976million for their ‘share’ of the overspend on top of the £12billion annual contribution the UK makes to Europe. The crisis has been sparked because officials spent far more than they were allocated under the budget approved by MEPs last November.

The coffers for programmes such as education, foreign exchange programmes and research have been bled dry as national governments drew on the funds in the face of austerity drives at home. The demand to plug the budget will be made on October 23 – three days before MEPs are expected to approve a seven per cent inflation-busting rise for the European Parliament’s budget.

Nigel Farage, UKIP leader, said: ‘No cost-benefit analysis of our membership can justify this increase. It is out of the question that David Cameron accede to their demands.'

I have left out the quotes from the Conservative ministers (Labour and the Liberal Democrats didn't even comment on it from what I know, so I assume they agree with the increase just as they do when they're in office) because as usual - the Tory Party and it's MPs will make nice noises about "how dare they ask us for £x" but then cave in a few months later..... as Mr. Cameron will do so.

Or Mr. Cameron might do what he did last time when the EU asked for say a 8% increase and Cameron managed to 'get them down' to 5% calling it a 'victory for Britain'... oooohh how impressive despite the fact that was the tactic of the EU in the first place (ask for more, recieve what you wanted after 'compromise').

Indeed, the only battles this government is capable of winning is one involving flags (see below).. and even then they couldn't win the battle because no government ever wins against the European Commission.
