Is there any addon for chrome that lets you read RSS feeds like IE or Opera or Firefox?

I don't want a button in at top notifying me when its updated or whatever, I simply want to be able to read it.

It used to allow me to do this until an update about a month ago which now just downloads the feed and asks me to download any of the addons, most of which are crap

Reload chrome once you have installed it.

Still downloads the feed and doesn't allow me to view it.

This isn't an extension but what I do is use Google Reader (http://www.google.com/reader) then make that tab pinned. Then use the Google Reader Notifier (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-reader-notifier-by/apflmjolhbonpkbkooiamcnenbmbjcbf) extension to tell me how many unread articles there are.

What I want is just to simple read it

I don't want to be notified of updates, I don't want to subscribe to it, I don't want any new buttons next to the url regarding it.

Chrome, IE and Firefox all allow you to simply read the feed, but chrome insists on instantly downloading it then asking what you wish to do with it.

A few months ago it would read them fine and i've not changed any addons since.

I can read RSS feeds fine in Chrome. Tried the BBC news one
http://feeds.bbci.co.uk/news/rss.xml
Displayed fine in chrome, did not ask me to download anything and I don't have any extensions for viewing RSS feeds.

Edit: Just realised, I'm using Chrome Canary and not the stable version. The behavour you described does happen in the stable version.

However, I searched on the chromium issue tracker and found the following:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=129917
which was blocking:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=127313

So it seems the problem your having has been fixed and you'll just have to wait for the stable release that includes this fix (appears it was fixed in 23, chrome stable is currently 22)
