Wow, it seems Disney has decided to buy Lucasfilm which also includes the Star Wars franchise.
Media giant Disney has purchased movie and TV production house Lucasfilm for $4.05B in cash and stock, according to a Street Insider report. The deal includes the Star Wars franchise, which Disney is producing a new episode of in 2015, says Reuters.
The transaction includes Disney paying roughly half of the price in cash and the rest in 40 million shares at closing of market.
Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, says that ““This transaction combines a world-class portfolio of content including Star Wars, one of the greatest family entertainment franchises of all time, with Disney’s unique and unparalleled creativity across multiple platforms, businesses, and markets to generate sustained growth and drive significant long-term value.”
Lucas says that it is now “time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers.”
“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” he added, ”I’ve always believed thatStar Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”

I think they should have kept them separate, but I'd like to see new productions before making any judgements. :)
What does this mean for that online star wars game? I hope they get rid of it lel

I have decided my opinion on the situation.

That should suffice.

not sure but wouldnt buying lucasfilms come with the rights to star wars, I'm really not sure how it works
I think Disney can actually pull this off. It's not like Disney don't know how to create success. Kathleen Kennedy is to be put in charge of the new LucasFilm under Disney and she's the best film producer second only to Spielberg. CAPABLE HANDS ME THINKS.

It is Disney and everyone loves their films, so I don't see why it won't be a success.

Really, more Star Wars films? They shouldn't touch the original films, they should focus on a new film franchise. The original Star Wars films are all done and dusted, especially when 7 wouldn't make sense as most of the actors in 6 are no more :P
Buzz Lightyear will play a part I guess.
I wonder what direction this will put the films in though.

I saw this on the bbc article about it
In a statement announcing the purchase, Disney said it planned to release a new Star Wars film, episode seven, in 2015. That will be followed by episodes eight and nine and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said.
So what, they aim to just release film after film? The only thing they could probably tell is what happened after darth vaders reign but dragging that on forever will be a bad movie. It worked as a trilogy because it new when and how it was going to end (I presume they knew the whole story from the start but don't know myself).

They could make films based on any game franchises. Jedi Outcast was reasonably good, but the game will always out do any film.
I welcome it. Everyone knows the original Star Wars (probably watched them enough times) and I don't think Disney will be able to produce big stinkers like Episode 1, 2 & 3 were. George Lucas is a creative consultant as well so I'm sure he'll be there to steer Disney in the right direction. I'm looking forward to it.

Because Star Wars fans are not Disney fans.
I think it's a stupid decision, I'm not even a Star Wars fans, but to create any more films will just tarnish the old ones. Yes, it was the same situation back in 1999 when Episode I was created, but at least it was still George Lucas and the original team that are creating them.
It's a bit like getting J. K. Rowling to write a Bond novel, just because shes good at writing book series doesn't mean shes good at doing Bond.
If they make any game based movie I'd like to see kotor 1 & 2
I'm sure that's steering towards the prequel kind of movie? I hope to god they steer away from the idea of a prequel, there's so much in the Star Wars universe which is noted in the comics and novels which could massively expand the Star Wars universe.

They could but it sounds to me that rather than having an idea for a group of films e.g. a trilogy they instead just plan to release film after film bleeding it dry.
I'm not keen on the idea of more star wars, but it could work, it just needs a concrete plan. There's nothing stopping them making a trilogy and then making another trilogy if they do have something but it sounds like they just want to do a saw - if it sells basically make it regardless

Marvel fans weren't exactly Disney fans, but did you see Micky mouse in The Avengers? That was a damm right successes.
Also, George has said he's always wanted three trilogies of the franchise , with 20 years between each trilogy.

A trilogy might be okay but I do think they'll make more and more and eventually kill the franchise. Sometimes its better to stop while its working rather than drag it on till it becomes a joke.

I heard about this. I don't want star wars so I can't say i'm excited but i'm sure they'll add a couple of rides in america. That is what I am looking forward to! :D
I'm very interested to see how the plot works out really. I don't know much of star wars beside the 6 movies already made, but are there any more Dark Side people left? Anyone significant that is to carry on the empire?
Was chatting to my dad earlier on about this, what they need to do is keep it true to the end of the story and what happened afterwards. With a title like Return of the Jedi, the Jedi Academy and the younger students of the Jedi order could be brought into play and how it all actually works, and given it's a Disney film that'll want to appeal to kids I can't think of a better way to improve the storyline.
Also Sideous wasn't the last Sith lord who existed, and I think the Empire could easily be brought back too if done properly. Luke Skywalker would have to play a role in the new movie, as he'd have to be a Jedi master like Obiwan Kenobi now.
Got bored earlier so I was flicking around Star Wars' wiki site Wookiepedia (what an awesome name!!!) and according to books/comics etc Luke had a few generation below him some distinctive Jedi people. Cade, Kal, some traditionally odd star wars names etc. Could be an idea for the new plot. That's enough of a time gap for the Empire to have secretly grown as well.
