Me and my friends are going to see The Hobbit near christmas, but they said even though its a prequel to watch Lord of the Rings first to get an idea,

I remember seeing then when I was little in the cinema with my older brother when in primary school, but remember little of the actual plots or bothered with them.

I was always put off by them as when growing up it was either which was the best magical movie LOTR or Harry Potter.

Around an hour in watching the first one now and I'm really loving the movie! So so so good!

You better be watching the extended edition versions, not worth the effort otherwise.

They leave out a lot of extremely important detailing and history that you'll only get from the books so I really must encourage anyone with an interest in fantasy to read the full story, but as standalone films they really are marvelous as long as you ignore Legolas skating down the stairs. Fabulously made and if I'm honest the only gripes I have are to do with book-to-film changes, other than that they really are a work of art and I am realllllllllllllllllllllllly hoping that The Hobbit is done as well

I love the LOTR films so much you don't understand. I watch a bit every night before I go to bed. I've seen them about 20 times and they still never get old for me. I much prefer the extended versions to the shorter ones, and I love watching them with the commentaries as well, particularly the cast one. I also agree that the books are amazing. I've only read them twice but they're definitely one of my top favourite book series. I just love LOTR :')
