View Full Version : Do you ever drink alone or at home?

Title says it all really, do you ever have a few beers or open a bottle of wine at home to relax or simply to enjoy the drink itself?
Personally it's not something I've ever done; drinking is something I'd only consider doing in a social situation. Sometimes I do feel like it would be nice to kick back with a drink but at the same time I feel like drinking alone is probably a slippery slope and I'm also inclined to believe that drinking less alcohol is always a good thing, despite studies about "drinking X glasses of wine Y times a week" being beneficial.
What are your thoughts on drinking alone or drinking at home?

totally the same i don't enjoy drinking unless its with friends, i rarely even have a glass of wine with my mum, only time i will is if family are over and even then i won't drink to the excess i do when with friends. sometimes tempted to buy alcohol when i'm shopping to have a few during weekends im not out but then id prob end up doing it all the time which i don't want. been a few times ive finished off bottles from the weekend but generally save them for the next time i wanna get proper drunk.

I had a glass of cider when I was at home on my own once
thankfully I dont go out haha
i never drink at home unless it's christmas, i don't like it otherwise. i only ever drink if i'm at a party anyway really!!
Well I don't really drink, a little drink every few months perhaps. But if I do, I don't like to drink at home, not sure why, but I it's always been the same with my family, my parents refused to drink in the house and only did if they went out.
I find it sad if people drink alone, I just wanna hug em :P

from time to time, calmed down a lot now though. In March I was getting through about a bottle of wine a night? I'll now have the odd drink if I feel like it.

If I was meant to be going out, pre-drinks or I'm just relaxing. Don't really think it's terrible. It's like a social life minus the friends.
Don't go mental or anything only have 1-2.

yeah, sometimes i just want a drink. usually something like crabbies though. don't bother with spirits (that much though) because it just means i'm wasting my alcohol that i'd use for predrinks.

I know my brother sometimes does it, but for my drinking is always around friends. Plus if anything goes wrong, I know I'll have someone to look over me and take care of me is needed. This is also the reason why I never smoke stuff alone. At home, or alone, or with people you don't fully know, you never know what can happen when you're not at 100%, and I don't think that is safe.
This said, I think drinking alone is kind of depressing and it leads more easily to alcoholism than drinking as a social action. I doubt I'll ever enjoy drinking alone, and will keep going to with friends every time I feel like drinking.
Very rarely, I haven't been out drinking in a month or so now so the amount I have indoors is well... If it's rare inside, yeah.

I don't really like the taste of alcohol, so I only drink with the purpose of getting drunk in social situations. I feel like drinking alone would be pointless and a waste of money.

Not really, I sometimes have a few beers with dinner with my family, or have one or two on my own after a long day/week just to chill out and relax. Never full on been drunk on my own though.

yeah I normally have a couple of beers every few nights a week
Erm only really if I'm meeting my friends late i.e. predrinking, and that very rarely happens. In the summer I did a bit but that's just cause I had loads of rum left over from Greece and a free house. Run and coke and a *** out my window was lovely.

I've only ever done it when me and my ex had a sudden break up and I was devistated.
Butm I wouldn't do it otherwise. I prefer to be out and drinking with friend, instead of drinking anti-socialy.

I'm not much of a drinker so I'd only ever drink socially. But it's not that I'm particularly opposed to drinking solo though. I guess if I liked alcohol more I would.

No, I dont drink :)
I'll drink alone in the house sometimes, but only one drink or something haha. I'll drink in the house on special occasions or if I have friends over for the night. I don't really drink much anyway, to be honest.
I drink on my own and at home. Not to excess though, some Jager to calm me after a hard day. Only on occasion though, maybe once or twice a month?

If there's some around, in my case, rarely ever being so, my parents don't drink, I don't bother to buy even though I can, otherwise I perhaps would more so. But I only have on a few occasions, mostly just to calm myself though for whatever reason. Last time I did I was fairly upset, drank a little too much, started an argument over nothing, urgh.. it got messy ok? Long story short, rarely.
Conspiracy.

Back when I was really depressed I would get drunk on my own. I tried to numb myself.
Now I may have the odd glass of wine.

They say drinking alone is a sign of alcoholism. But as I'm an alcoholic, I do it from time to time :)!

Drank some wine with coke earlier. Managed half a glass and poured it away due to it tasting like anti-sugar.

depends on the mood i'm in, not usually though and it won't be much if i do.

Quoting myself.
I've had about 10 jagers round my gfs house tonight, still currently on the "happy high" it gives me.
So should I as well, I need to reward myself for my injection I have on the 24th of Dec :(

I never drink at all - never have and don't plan to :P. Doubt I'd ever drink alone at home if I did, though.
yeah I never do it at home, ever. But I have a couple of times at uni I guess but it's normally just before people come round to continue so that makes no difference does it?
I drink whiskey when I'm ill but other than that I only drunk when I'm going out
