This is my first guide, and probably my only guide, the guide to...

*drumroll please*

CHOOSE A HOST!

Now, at some point nearly everyone that either uses Habbo or uses the internet in general will be interested to make a website. It turns out that only about half of them ever do get round to do doing so. We are all used to the terrible free hosts like MySpace, MSN and Freewebs, but what about paying a very small amount of money for a good host with lots of options? This is the best guide (in my opinion) ever to be made about choosing a host.

1. Domains

Not first, if you are going to run a site, it is almost essential to get a domain - who wants www.myhost.com/users/~myusername/? Now, a domain is an address like www.habboxforum.com or www.habbohotel.co.uk. Many starters think that this costs a fortune, but you can get a domain for nothing! For nothing you can get a dot.tk address, which is a quick and simple way to have a domain with email capabilities, but it lacks features such as subdomains. If you want features you need to buy a payed domain, such as .co.uk, .com, .net and .us, the cheapest you can go is £1.99 a year, for any .co.uk address you want. That deal is obtainable at 1and1 (http://www.1and1.co.uk), but it is not really as good as it seems as you don't get any online storage space, just 50 email addresses, and you can redirect it to your own sites, such as ones stored at Freewebs.
The best package around is at AX Hosting (http://www.ax-hosting.com) you can get for £12 2 years of a .co.uk domain, and then for another £12 a year you can get a great hosting package with plently of spaces and features - seems pretty good to me!

2. Hosting

When you have your first hosting package, naturally you want ease of use so you can get your first website up quickly. I recommend you download a free template (there are plently around the forum and around the net) and put your own content into it. It helps if you have a program like Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage, but if you search on Google you can find some good tutorials that teach you what you need to do to edit a template, here are a list of some good ones:

W3Schools (http://www.w3schools.com)
HTML Code Tutorials (http://www.htmlcodetutorials.com)
A University Guide (http://www.cwru.edu/help/introHTML/toc.html)
Pagetutor (http://www.pagetutor.com)
HTMLSource (http://www.htmlsource.com)

Now once you've finished editing your template, go look for a host. Whatever you want you will probably want it to have cPanel and the Fantastico add-in. You want at least 500MB bandwidth per month and 1GB space if you are going to make anything for the site. Again AX Hosting (http://www.ax-hosting.com) lowest package is a good choice, as it has subdomains, enough space and bandwidth, unlimited email accounts with web access, PHP (so you can use Cutenews 1.4), MYSQL for databases and Fantastico so you can quickly install web programs like Drupal,
pieces of Forum Software, and polls. Perfect, so go buy it...

3. Your Site

Now, nearly every habbo site uses Cutenews (http://www.cutephp.com) for there news reporting, as it easily allows for editing and it supports having for than one user. And even better, just this week Cutenews 1.4 was released, with even easier page intergration, which gives you the code, all you have to do is add it then save the page as a PHP file instead of a .HTM, also included are RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feeds, so you can easily display the news on your forum front page or allow your users to put it on there own sites. Then you can install a simple forum like PHPBB2 so your users can have disuccsions, which is almost instant via Fantasico and Script Manager. If anyone needs any help with Cutenews, PM me as I am experienced with using it. Also if you need any other tips, PM me too!

Thanks for reading this tutorial, hope you liked it. If you would like to on your site contact me, currently it is only allowed here and on Firegraphix (http://www.firegraphix.com). I am not affiliated with AX Hosting, though I do use them and I feel that they are brilliant, and I am getting no money from this.
