I hope it's removed, the thread shouldn't have been established until 7 days before christmas, completely irresponsible.
p.s. Chris, if you want help removing it ask Matt as he's the one who refused to move it because "5:35 PM - mattGARNER //: Im not being the bad evil santa :("

To be fair Matt probably should have moved it straight away before people managed to gain so much rep from it :P
I think Matt should remove all the rep that was given as his punishment
I agree it should be removed though, (even mine) because its going to happen all over again in a few weeks and so all that reputation was kinda pointless really

If it is not being removed then there is no point moving the thread because they still benefited from +rep before the allowed date. Move it back and let them +rep to their hearts content

Drops the reputation table in the database, installs like system. Then closes any feedback on anyone who complains. That's my plan for Christmas.

Agreed with this suggestion which makes at least as much sense as undoing peoples' seasons greetings
4real people if we wanted to give out rep for no reason at all we could do it even without a Christmas thread, it makes bollock all difference

hmm I can see why, but last year is was started before the 5th December (I have Christmas rep from then), so as far as everyone knew, it would be allowed to start it now. I can see why 21st-28th would be better, but the rule has only just been made :P. I don't mind either way, though.

Yeah it has been earlier in previous years I think, probably should have been announced sooner to prevent this happening, but meh you cant always predict the future I guess. It was bound to happen at some point haha. I know it was being talked about a couple of weeks ago.

put the thread back now and just get rid of it like you've done in a week or so so there can't be any re-reps?

Just reopen the same thread on the right date.
by then you can re-rep each person, if a rule gets made not to double post (which people prob wont follow anyways) then they'll post again saying they forgot they posted before, receive the rep and same situation again
if it's not allowed now, remove the rep then they can re-rep on the right date :P

The only problem with that is that it'd be gone by the 10th December, which is no where near Christmas (well, close but not that close :P) - so someone might start another one.

stop trying to come up with situations that will never happen. im pretty sure that everyone who posted knows the posted and wont do anything like that.

Can anyone come up with an actual reason why the rep ought to be removed other than "I DIDN'T GET AS MUCH WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH"? If people want to wish each other season's greetings they are free to do so and the absence of one thread doesn't invalidate the entire rep system
Mr-Trainor

That's if it's closed straight away, but if not then the longer it stays open; the more time consuming it will be to deal with it.

01-12-2012, 06:29 PM
because the purpose of that thread and every post in that thread was rep, if you made a rep 'post and ill +rep you' it'd be removed for the exact same reason, pointless rep.
whether they're saying merry xmas or hello it's pointless rep for the post.
leaving it will just cause people to gain twice as much rep when the new one gets posted as the exact same people will be receiving 400-500 rep again.
it's pointless having strict-ish rules on pointless posting then allowing these reps to be kept.

It's not like it happens all the time though, it's just a one-off thread, once a year. And I doubt anyone got over 500 rep, because they probably only got 10/15 reps max.. and I highly doubt everyone had 30+ rep power.

Reputation has been broken for years, was stated by Jin in feedback a few years ago to be honest. We should also ban anyone who complains within December until 1st January - A month without any moaning would be so good.

No it's suggesting if we make an exception for one thread, it should only be that posted officially by forum staff.
not allowing anyone to make a xmas thread, closing it an hour or so later and leaving the 30 people or whatever that posted with a bonus of 500 rep points, then creating another in a few weeks with the exception.

omg shut up that's why I'm suggesting leave the thread, put it back on the 21st, people can't rep our posts if they already have. then everyone else can post and get in on it. you keep saying people will post twice in the thread but they'll do that even if a new thread is made? thats why i said move it to discuss anything, anyone who posts twice can have their post removed (even have both posts removed so they cant get any at all)then its all fair.. bet you wouldn't complain if you were one of the first posters to get loads of rep.

oh does it really matter? oh it's unfair!!! rep in christmas threads will always be unfair as it's always front-loaded (earlier you post, the more rep you get). plus, it's not like it happens all the time. unless there is a simple way to remove the rep, no admin should have to go through it all manually and waste their time because some people are annoyed other users got more rep than they did. chill...

bet i would, if you wish to use that argument "bet you would complain if you weren't one of the first posters to get loads of rep'
no i won't shut up, and people already have multiple posts in the thread, having a thread that began on the 1st of december with what 50 posts already moving it back into a public forum then continuing from there is just going to have people posting again, oh i forgot i posted on the 1st of december... and it's obviously going to be a lot harder to keep track of the 50 existing posts with the new ones, than a completely new thread detailing the rules etc, if a thread with 50 posts is moved, people are instantly going to jump to the end no doubt and throw in a post without checking rules etc on the first page.
remove rep, remove the thread, bring it back on 21st clean, you'll get your rep back then, win.
