.mp4 is just a container, what codec is the video and audio currently encoded in?

Ideally you'd be uploading them to youtube with the video encoded in H.264 and the audio in AAC. Unless you've got an amazing internet connection then YouTube recommend you use a video bitrate of 8mbps for 1080p and 5mbps for 720p with an audio bitrate of 384kbps.

As far as I'm aware, h.264 encoding of .mp4/mov is the standard compression format and the format that Youtube has the least trouble with.

Supposedly they support the following:

WebM files - Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codecs
.MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files - Typically supporting h264, mpeg4 video codecs, and AAC audio codec
.AVI - Many cameras output this format - typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM
.MPEGPS - Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio
.WMV
.FLV - Adobe-FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio

Does your HD-PVR not record in mp4/h.264? Most of the ones I know of do, blackmagic, hauppauge etc.

Not 100% sure what a codec is, im assuming what its recorded in?
I use ArcSoft ShowBiz to record, Here's my settings in that;

Think my connection is like 50mb upload on a general basis (its BT Infinity) I can save in different formats with ArcSoft which are;

Mp4
TS
M2TS

Not that any of them I really know other than MP4.

h.264 mp4 from a 720p source at 9mb/s should be pretty decent. Like Tomm said though switch over to AAC audio. Otherwise I don't see a problem with your configuration. Double check the input is actually in 720p?

Ok seen as its sort of on same topic, Im now having a problem where my HD PVR says its being used by something else, I've tried restarting pc, turning HD pvr on and off, nothing still not working, won't let me view / record because its apparently being used, only thing iv installed iv vegas 10, not sure if that could have affected it?
