It's my 18th in less than 2 months (SO EXCITED) and I wanted to get my first tattoo around that time.
I have four that I want and i know i'm going to get slated but only one has any meaning to it, the others I just like. There's no point in telling me not to get them due to this reason as the majority i've wanted since i was like 14.
For those of you who have been ink'd where is the most painful place that you have experienced? I'm trying to decide which one i want first but i can't really decide which route to take... size or pain?
I want the following (fourth one i want a small horse shoe but i'm not sure where in the memory of Apollo, no writing as i think names are a bit of a hit and miss with tattoos, but i don't want that as my first as i havent decided a lot about it):
http://i47.tinypic.com/29awi68.jpg
http://i47.tinypic.com/119yvls.jpg
http://i46.tinypic.com/281dn4g.jpg
(the dove i want holding a heart made of sticks and on my shoulder blade)
so... what i'm asking is, if you've been inked what would your suggestion be for the first tat, and another question, if i get the anchors on my feet can they get ruined if they rub against shoes when they're newly done or am i making that up?
no negative crit please, it's my body and my choice

Hi,
uhm guess iv prob got most tattoos on this forum haha, uhm, think chest is the worst place to get one, I guess aslong as you REALLY want it, like you know you can see it on your body, then its fine getting it, people who say oh it has no meaning etc are mugs, its your body, your rules etc. Anything on hips, back, chest, foot, shin will hurt lots. I just had a half sleeve on my right arm up to my shoulder which got pretty painful.
Depends how big it is, but before it bleeds its actually fairly relaxing, then when it bleeds its pretty sore, specially when its a session of 6 hours or so.

like 10 mins, but they wont heal well, then you'll have to get them re-done a 3-4 times i'd say as they are like in your shoes / they will rub

my arm has only just healed thats 4-5 weeks, for something like that 2 weeks to heal, but cos its in that place it will keep ripping the scab off, will come out really poor id say as its so thin, the scab will pull etc, make it wider, then re-done it'l eventually come out quite thick and poor id say :( choose a different place

i'm not too bothered about the soreness after, it's the initial getting it done. i don't want to flinch or anything or back out halfway through (even if it is only little). I just remembered i have a cream that's like emla cream (similar to that name) which i use for blood tests (yes i'm a massive wimp!). how much would you say j&h cost for something so titchy?

Thats numbing cream for before / while getting it, just have to put it on 2 hours before. Uhm you can do, its what ever suits you best really. prob £30-40 i'd just message them on facebook n ask them

Pretty sure it's a terrible idea to numb it just like it is with piercings, as it won't allow your body to react properly and the healing process will be thrown off

i have one on my forearm which didnt hurt much. by the wrist hurt more than higher up though
and one on my back. and this one closer the middle of my back hurt more then by the side of my back
im prob getting karma written on my foot soon so ill let u know how that goes
i heard foot tattoos hurt alot so yh
but overall i dont find it that painful. i remember the first time i was so nervous and my palms were getting sweaty lol
---------- Post added 19-12-2012 at 05:45 PM ----------
also if you get ones on ur arm or other visible places
make 100% sure you want it there and you love it
i got mine like a week after turning 18 and i kind of rushed into it
its colored and i really wish i got something just black
and for job interviews id always wear long sleeves so be aware of that aswell
healing completely depends on the person. I was talking to me tattoo artist, and she has a tattoo on her wrist like me, about 2 inches long and it took her like 5 weeks to heal up, mine took about 2-3.
I've heard people say though that it's better to start small so you can a taster of what it feels like without the worry that maybe you'll go "****, i don't like the feel of this, stooopp!" Because it is the most unique feeling ever.

Don't listen to this guy. They will heal perfectly fine as long as you take care of them properly. Different tattooist will tell you different ways, but as long as you keep it clean and wrapped till it properly heals, especially as it is on your ankle, there will be no reason for it to be touched up. That does mean having cling film on your ankle for a a week and a bit (that's if you're wearing socks or shoes, you could keep it unwrapped after about two days if you're just at home)
Pretty sure it's a terrible idea to numb it just like it is with piercings, as it won't allow your body to react properly and the healing process will be thrown off
Numbing it doesn't really conflict with the healing, but you have to let the skin 'open up' before numbing it. For a small piece like this they won't, but for something big, they'll put the lines and the shading in, but then numb it up for the colour.

My brother had two done on the insides of his ankles that were two swirly oddly shaped things and he says that they hurt like hell for 6 weeks because there's no excess skin round there to cushion the needles. Plus he had to wear vans for ages because tough shoes hurt and inflamed them again so he went back and they gave him some cream to apply twice a day and it made it much better.
He says they're worth it now.
I have 18 tattoos in total, all I'd say is if you can't take pain then don't have one done. You need to be a relaxed persona and also having your first tattoo would be advisable to have it where you got muscle not on bone like your spin or foot.

personally I think those tattoos are hideous which you've posted but anyway I got one on my arm and I'd say that's the least painful place but idk cos I only have the one, it's jus like a sharp scratch.

For the love of all that is holy, please please don't just pick the place that'll do it for the cheapest. Have a look at the artist's portfolio, and try and ask for photos of healed tattoos. Tattoos can look great when they are fresh, but a year down the line the lines could have fallen out and the whole piece is faded. This is why a lot of tribal looks bad, because all the kids go to the cheapest place and they pay the price for it.
For something like that, and that size, I would imagine it would be about £180, probably no more than £200. Most tattoo artists (at least the ones I know) charge about £60 an hour, and I can't see that taking more than three hours.

I haven't got any done at this moment in time and I clearly stated in the first post that I didn't want anyone else's opinions on the actual tattoos, I wanted opinions on where to go for my first tattoo.
I like them so what does it matter if others don't. my body, my choice.
