I've just got a new phone and it says 100% charged after a few hours, should I unplug it?

My brother is telling me that it'll ruin my battery if I unplug it after only a few hours.

It won't ruin the battery, just unplug it - it's fully charged so there's no need to keep it plugged in :).

Your brother is right, when you first charge your battery, whatever amount of charge you put in will be the maximum capacity for the rest of its life, so keeping it plugged in for about a week or two means that it will have a battery life of about 1 or 2 weeks, which is really handy.

Don't unplug. You will regret it. Forever.

Batteries are smart now, Not just a bag of liquid, Depending on the phone, You should be fine, When you first get a phone its best to charge to 100% yes, then when its done, its charged. Its not going to go above %100, would be a bit pointless then.

Manufacturers and more importantly batteries are better now, you don't even have to charge fully nowadays let alone overcharge it.
