Years, and I mean years ago.. I heard that Coca Cola's secret ingredient was:

Kocaine.
That's how it got the name Coca Cola. I'm not sure if it's true but all my family say so. How fascinating.

I spelt it with a K purposely as it blocks it out with a c. I tried it with a c and it put asterisks so I editted it before the edit button disappears ;P

Yes, it is one of the 'secret ingredients'. Or atleast, it was. I'm not sure now. I think they must put some sort of addictive drug in as coca-cola is addictive.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was used for medical purposes. At school we learnt how gin and whisky was used to heal pain and to be honest nowadays they use Kannabis to heal pain Drugs seem to heal pain, so drugs are good for some things

depends on the useage, id bet quite a few forum members here would be dead without em, every medical substance is a drug, and they all do somthing to you, just some drugs are harmful, or have harmful sideffects "/

It isnt true. It would be illegal, and would have been shut down, and wouldnt be around any more.

Proof you say?

Ill highlight whats important

In 1885, when Atlanta and Fulton County passed Prohibition legislation, Pemberton responded by developing Coca-Cola, essentially a carbonated, non-alcoholic version of French Wine Cola. The beverage was named Coca-Cola because originally, the stimulant mixed in the beverage was coca leaves from South America. In addition, the drink was flavored using kola (Cola) nuts, the beverage's source of caffeine. Pemberton called for 5 ounces of coca leaf per gallon of syrup, a significant dose, whereas in 1891 Candler claimed his formula (altered extensively from Pemberton's original) contained only a tenth of this amount. Contrary to popular belief, Coca-Cola never contained ******* per se, which is a highly refined extract of coca leaves and was always far too expensive to use in a mass-market beverage. However, as ******* is one of numerous alkaloids present in the coca leaf, it was nevertheless present in the drink. Today, the flavoring is still done with kola nuts and the coca leaf; however, the coca leaves used today are "spent" leaves - the leftovers of the *******-extraction process - and therefore the drink contains no trace of the stimulant.

Now, next time, do a little research before you spread stupid rumors :)

I always knew it to be something spelt or misthought as like kocaine, but not really kocaine itself.

It obviously wasent true, its just a rumor, people used to put it in themselves, and people used to smuggle it throught coke cans, but thats it. Can you even drink cocain? :s

I just found this

Coca-cola (http://www.cocacola.com/) was introduced in 1886 as "a valuable brain-tonic and cure for all nervous afflictions". Coca-cola was promoted (http://www.*******.org/coca-cola/index.html) as a temperance drink "offering the virtues of coca without the vices of alcohol". The new beverage was invigorating and popular. Until 1903, a typical serving contained around 60mg of kocaine. Sold today, it still contains an extract of coca-leaves. The Coca-Cola Company imports eight tons from South America each year. Nowadays the leaves are used only for flavouring since the drug has been removed.

Want the link..?

http://www.kocaine.org/ Its not with the k so change it to a c it tells you all about the drug and what its used for. Quite good info there.

I guess this solves the arguement that kocaine was in cola :P

How odd...

I'm not so convinced it's true. Just because your family say it's true, it doesn't mean it's not an old rumour... o:

There will be many stories/rumours about it. For example, there will be a true story, and then there will be a story that Coca-Cola has released, and there'll be others too.

My science teacher said that when it was first produced the main ingredients were:

Kocaine
Caramel
Sugar
Water

But, there is a large possibility it is false because he is mental. x]
