The response from this storm is the absolute worst responce to anything I have ever seen. The riots, violence, looting, and even shooting at rescue copters. Americans ourselves arent helping much eaither. When the tsunami hit, people donated, and helped within hours. When this hurricane was over, we turned away, and this is our country. Even our government has stalled to help, and luisianna, usually a republican state, is turning and starting to hate George Bush, and who can blame them? They havent done anything. How come we can send helicopters, thousands of troops, and billions of dollars for a war, but we cant help those people who are suffering and dying in our own country. Its rediculous. Im not anywhere nearby, but my parents have donated some (my school might do a drive soon) but I dont think we have enough. Why not? We have all the supplies, why cant we get it there? Im angry at this as you can see.
What do you think?

AGREED, people just cant wait of course there will be looting and volience. its because people have no paintents, if people didnt do it and let the army and others help this would be done extremely quicker. but i dont blame them on one point they're completly desprate and would do anything to get through this but attacking the help? that is complete bull.....

I can understand looting for food, its their only hope, but people steal clothings ect. I can understand frustration, but shooting at helicopters wont help at all.
But patients has run out. We should be able to help more by now. We have litterally barely done anything.

People are dying by hunger and lack of insulen and other medical needs. Also people are being ra..ped!
Its disgusting. George Bush was on bloody holiday for most of it! It's sick. If that was Los angelos he would care more because its full of rich, white people. New Orleans has a large population of poor blacks. The people George Bush stopped from voting as he knew he wouldn't get there vote. He's putting a price on peoples lives and it seems to me that the price of the poor people in New Orleans isn't very high. Half his troops r in Iraq fighting about oil. Money, that's all he cares about. And now he expects Britain to help! What help did he give us in the London bombings? We have our own troubles and our troubles still aint over yet. RIP to all the poor souls who have died at the hands of Hurricane Katriana!
Also if you havnt figured it out, his lack of help is making him money... Oil prices have gone up once again! George Bush doesn't care about the people in his country! Only the money.

Unfortunatly it doesnt work like that, you cant click youre fingers and we all work together, the only people that can do that, are the people who dont care.

You selfish F**k I think the americans who was in the city at the time should have been a bit more alert and no done stuff which they did.
But everyone acts different when your life is under pressure.
Its now thought over 10,000 are dead! Yes we should all get together and help but that wont happen, merely because George bush and most of americas powerful people don't care about the people in the country. Only the money. Britain most proberly will send money to keep on america's good side even thou america never lends us a hand and because of them we are now being targeted by terrorists. This Hurricane Katrina is terrible but George Bush does not care. 53% of americans disaprove of him! Why is he still in power?

I agree, and to think this isnt one of those third world countries like Kenya, this is the most developed country in the world - the USA. I know I dont live there, but I am disgusted at the response, or lack of it. And when I see the situation in New Orleans, a very developed city, which looks like a war zone now, i feel horrible.

To clear things up:
Yes it was evacuated, but people arent FORCED to leave, they are just very strongly recommended. And there are very poor people down there, who didnt have a way to get out of it, so their only hope was to stay, and hope they survive
Cash would be most appropriate to donate, because many people dont have insurance. So when they lost everthing, they litterally lost everything.
Also: We should have been more prepared, because we knew it was comming.
A city on the shore, recieves a few hurricanes a year, and they are 20 feet below sea level. They recieve a big hurricane, they are doomed.
People are still stranded there, and there are buses and things getting people out, but unfortunatly, you need money. Rich people are also paying extra to get on. So it isnt helping the poor.

It's not exactly an issue of money currently. They have the supplies and the means to provide assistance but they encountered difficulties. The government is not to blame and these people did have advance warning and chose to stay during the hurricane.
Unfortunate for those that lost their lives and those who are stranded but there is no one to blame in this scenario and the world never runs smoothly without interference. I'm sure they are doing all they can to rescue survivors and protect the assets of New Orleans.

some americans are whining about how little food they have and how little water they have when their own govnerment puts other countries - even iraq, for years and keeping 3rd world countries in debt. I dont think the americanTs should be whining - just look at how many have died. They're the people im sad for. They lost everything
:(
but yeah the looting is wrong - exept when the people at the busses broke a shop open for food because they were almost starved to death
P.S my dad knows someone from where the hurricane hit and hes fine (just so people know that fact)

Okay, New Orleans basically had a tsunami with the height of the waves made by the strong winds, so why the heck isn't aid being sent to America as quickly as it was sent to Asia.
I've got a feeling it's the fact that America is so rich, they seem like a more independant country, but that's no excuse.
Ordinary people like us can't help, because we arn't being given any donation phone lines etc, like we were when the tsunami happened.
I saw people on the news having to queue at a super market to get drinks, but there was only like 15 bottles of water, and this was meant to provide for a queue of about 200 starving people, yeah right?! So the only other choice they have is to drink soda and coke etc.
That s.hitty stuff on a empty stomach, it will make them bloody ill, and the only food they were being given was crisps, that's not even proper food!
It really needs to be sorted!

The government isnt to blame for the storm itself obviously, or even the people who stayed (a lot of people had no way to escape anyway), but my god, its been days, and states have sent military and things like that, but the US government hasent done nothing. They said they sent a bunch of medical stuff, but it would take weeks to sort everything. We knew the storm was comming, these things should have been already down there and on hand.
The US is the richest country in the world, but this state, and the people in the city, are not. Not many have insurance, home destroyed, they have nothing.
And just because the storm is over, doesnt mean people arent dying. People are still stranded, stuck on rooftops, and litterally floating on debree. ITS OVER 90 DEGREES. They are dehydrated, and a lack of clean water isnt helping. No, they cant drink the flood water because it is so contaminated. It litterally could kill you in hours. There are dead bodies just floating in the water.
There is a huge thing that fox, abc, and nbc are showing for efforts next friday I think, with a bunch of bands performing, not sure who though. But that is for the aftermath. People are dying now.

The fundraisers are beneficial for the long term effects but really has no bearing on the current situation. They don't require funds and they don't require much assistance as they do have the means and materials but they are struggling with organization and accesibility. I'm looking at it from both sides here, these people didn't leave because they weren't prepared and that is their excuse, the government isn't able to help because they also weren't prepared and the citizens are not willing to accept that as an excuse from the government. The end result is that it's unfortunate that everyone was unprepared for this disaster and no one is deliberately withholding support if it's available to those in need.

But the government should have been prepared because:
1. Its happened before with bush senior
and
2. They said they were prepared for ANY disaster that my happen.
