Former cabinet minister Chris Huhne has resigned.
- Chris Huhne resigns as Energy Secretary after being told he faces charges of perverting the course of justice, over claims his wife accepted speeding penalty points on his behalf.
- Mr Huhne's now ex-wife Vicky Pryce will face the same charge, relating to an incident in 2003.
- Mr Huhne, Lib Dem MP for Eastleigh, in Hampshire, has denied any wrongdoing.
This ought to be an interesting by election, it's a swing seat and the polling seems quite fluid at the moment. Here's the results of the seat in 2010 General Election..
Liberal Democrats 46.5%
Conservative Party 39.3%
Labour Party 9.6%
UKIP 3.6%
The latest polls taken in the seat suggest the following..
CON 34%, LDEM 36%, LAB 19%, UKIP 13% (Populus poll from five days ago).
LDEM 36%, CON 33%, UKIP 16%, LAB 13% (Survation poll from over the weekend).
Interesting bit of history with this seat as it was the first election UKIP ever fought with Farage as candidate (20 years ago) as explained in the video below. So yeah, a bit of by-election fun this one and could turn out to be interesting.
