my job requires me to be on call throughout the night every 3 weeks and there's a really good redlight event at wire that i cannot miss so i need a excuse to not be on call that particular night/week, i've already worked out that i will be so i emailed my boss and she replied with 'any particular reason why you cannot be on call that week?" so i need a banging excuse to not work it
the best i've got is i'm visiting family in plymouth & i've already booked it off uni
any other good ones??

as you've already told your boss, you can't really use anything to do with illness. best bet would just to go with what you've already thought of. if you know an older(ish) woman, try and get her to call up aswell pretending to be your mum.
I say be truthful, but say you're willing to make the time up on a later date, suggest maybe twice in 3 weeks at one point. That's what I'd do if I were you.
say ur minding a baby for a friend or relative that week and you need to be with it 24/7
Wedding?
If it was my old job I'd just not turn up, then lie :P

I'd go with the honest option here and like Ry said, say you'll do double the next time.

Surely you're entitled to a certain amount of sick days/free-days for yourself? I'd go with maybe a wedding or a christening? Both could easily work either way! :P

Something like a family member is ill in Plymouth could work, you're there to support them and help with anything.
If not, I'd agree with sticking to being truthful.
You could use that excuse if you dont have youre staff on facebook who will grass?
