Not sure about the black circles on the controller, I'm watching the livestream at the moment, totally clueless with all these acronyms going around :P
Will be interesting to see how long Microsoft leave it now that Sony are making it's move :)

Looks like downloaded games will be downloaded in bits so you can start playing faster.

This share function looks great, being able to upload the last few seconds of gameplay, being able to watch people playing their game, and being able to control someone elses game that you're watching. As an Xbox user, I'm very impressed.

Yeah, that sounds like a killer feature. I'm wary of their social networking stuff, they need to bite the bullet and dive into facebook integration instead.

Seems impressive so far. That Knack game looks quite fun.

Looks like they're implementing a bunch of steam features.

I'm betting EE loved that coincidental plug.
Interface looks so much better than PS3 already!
I hope Microsoft moves quickly to announce theirs now

So glad I'm watching the stream on twitch than getting the information from places like the Verge, the Guardian and other random places - one of them has an article titled "Does Sony's next generation start with the PS4?", which is incredibly stupid.
It all seems impressive so far - the UI looks really good. The PS3 UI is pretty dreadful now that it's aged, it's shockingly slow and rather ugly.
EDIT: The game achievement sharing facility reminds me of what the Wii U can do, but Sony has done it a lot better. Once you've completed a part of the game you can share a comment (not sure about video or image, never tampered with it).

I hope they're holding their big games for E3 as game wise it was rather underwhelming :L

Not a lot of happy viewers - they were expecting a glimpse of the console :P It does make me wonder - will Microsoft take the upper hand and show off their new console?

Well a guy who works on the Xbox team tweeted:
Announce a console without actually showing a console? That's one approach
I would probably say when Microsoft is ready to talk about it then you would show the console. They have done previously I think?

Well a guy who works on the Xbox team tweeted:
Thing is, not showing off a console could work to their advantage. They could see what Microsoft create and reveal (whenever that is?) and then out do it in time for E3, assuming that's the plan. It did seem odd, there was so much hype over this and it was all technical details which, although impressive, will bore the general audience who prefer something more physical and concrete.

Very impressive show, although it would have been nice to have seen the damn thing. Can't wait to see what Microsoft pull out of the bag when they announce theirs. Nintendo has been blown out of the water in comparison.

Working so missed event. Is there any mention of compatibility with ps3 games?

It won't support them natively.
Unfortunately, Sony just announced that the PlayStation 4 won't play PS3 games natively out-of-the-box — all of the games you've accumulated over the last few years will be stuck on the older console. However, Sony did say it is exploring "advanced technologies" to bring PS3 support to the PS4 eventually. That backwards compatibility could come via Gaikai-powered streaming, just as we heard last week.

It's sad but true :P It's self-inflicted what Nintendo is suffering. They lack imagination and drive. The GamePad is amazing, but you need amazing games to really release the full potential. An actual HD Zelda Game would be amazing, and a revamp of other old games (and maybe some new). I still think Pokemon Wii could work, but they're afraid to give people a full 3D Pokémon adventure, or even any decent game. It's sad, but they'll be on the verge of death soon at this rate.

I agree it's odd that they didn't show the console. But it could be very beneficial to them, not only do they get more time to shrink their hardware to make a smaller console, but they also get to do the big actual console announcement at E3 which will allow them to keep attention focussed in their direction over the next few months.

In all honesty they should have realised that the Wii was a stupendous fluke yet they tried to pull the same thing off and failed.

I saw this happening but it is disappointing. Luckily I use my watching catch up stuff online, blu-rays etc mainly just got it this christmas as the one i got second had died. I may upgrade in a year or so it depends what games come out really but I do prefer playing them on my pc anyways (sadly my pc is old though now).

I thought this was already posted? Anyway my views still stand, I don't really like it, nor does it look symmetrical with the handheld parts you know where your hands hold the controller :P.

personally i'm team xbox, so i won't make any opinions until we see a new xbox.
I don't like the controller at all, Ithink it's ugly! Is it true that they're making it so you can't play second hand games?

It's not true. It's rumoured that Microsoft may be attempting to block pre-owned games, but Sony are bragging that they will not be doing this and are showing this off as a benefit of going for the PS4 instead of the next-gen Xbox.
Also, the controller seems as usable as the current DualShock controller. The screen in the middle doesn't appear to change anything as far as the main controls go.

Huh, so that's what the falling sky looked like - it seemed eerily familiar :P
Looking back at the announcement, it was a bit of a pointless party of words. None of it really made any sense and each speaker seemed rushed through - at one moment I thought each speaker's primary job was to announce the following speaker, because the stuff they had to talk about was mouth flatulence which lacked anything material. The only interesting info was regarding the PS4, such as the UI - but the rest was just stuff to make you go to sleep in the hopes they can stop talking themselves and go off to bed after a busy day of introducing the person who will be on stage next to them. There was the odd intermittent bit in between where they wow you with words, and have some guy talk about his unhealthy attraction to super cars. The end of the entire launch announcement party... thing, wasn't anything glamorous. It was as if they didn't expect people to be up so they just ended it with a "This is the PS4, ta-da pet".
Did anyone else re-watch parts of it and notice this, or am I being too critical?
