Hello :)
** RELEVANT TO UK USERS **
http://russfoundation.in/images/left_logo.gif
I will be straight, I am asking for a bit of help. Basically, I am unsure if you guys have heard of it but there is a website called www.easyfundraising.org.uk (http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk). The website is fantastic, in that all you need to do is go on it, then go to your normal websites (such as Amazon) for shopping. Then for every pound you spend, normally about 2% is given to a charity.
Basically, in December/start of January this year I went to an orphane my college supports in India. I am continuing my efforts to raise money, and hoped you would be able to help. Easy Fundraising is a fantastic website, and I was wondering if you could help me too!
There are a whole host of websites that you can buy from including huge brands such as John Lewis and Amazon UK!
You can see my cause here: http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/find-a-cause/support-cause/?char=37948
Whilst it says Indian Expedition 2012-13, the money itself is going to the Good Foundation (charity number: 291251), the UK sector of the Russ Foundation.
The Russ Foundation is primarily a girls home in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. The girls there are hugely deserving, and there are now some boys too. The majority of the children have lost their parents (and sometimes even the rest of their family), however Russ has given them the chance to get an education and have a much better life, that we all too often take for granted.
So in essence:
Go shopping online!
Use my cause to raise money
Get your goods, and feel good that you have raised money for a charity, totally free.
The above link is NOT a referal link, it is not benefiting me in anyway. +Rep to anyone who purchases something using that link - hopefully, together, we can double that £115 raised so far very soon. I 100% promise you not a penny of what we raise here will be going in administration fees, or any rubbish like that. I will happily show pictures of the trip, again via private message.
Thanks :)
P.S. If anyone wishes to contact me to find out more about the Russ Foundation and my own experience, please private message me. You can also view the website at www.russfoundation.in (http://www.russfoundation.in)

So I wanted to make this more compelling.
For anyone who raises £5 for the cause I will either give you one months VIP on this forum or one gold bar - whichever you would prefer.
Remember this costs YOU NOTHING.
Thanks!

Hi Jen,
No problem! Thanks so much for looking to take part though. Words simply cannot express how much I believe in the cause, having seen it with my own eyes. I will send you some pictures in about 15 minutes :)
Thanks again!
Sounds like a great cause. I'll try to do this next time I shop online.
Tell me why I should support your charity other than the ∞ others.

A charity is a charity. As long as it's helping people, it should be good enough. :)

There are a million charities out there begging for my money. People don't exactly have a lot of disposable income so charitable acts are kept to a minimum thus, you cannot donate to everyone.
Which is why I need a reason, better than other charities' reasons, to donate.

Thanks very much, Shar :) Really easy to do - it basically works on a sort of referal link thing (so you click to go on Amazon through easyfundraising, and then go about your normal purchase).

If you use easyfundraising to raise money for a charity already, then good on you. Personally, last year I raised over £150 for Teenage Cancer Trust, and obviously a lot for the Russ Foundation.
However, I am asking people to help raise money for this cause for one reason. I have experienced this charity first hand - sure you could help other charities - but I doubt many of those will give you personal one to one experiences of the charity.
If you even bothered to read the thread you would see this isn't COSTING YOU A PENNY! That is what is so brilliant about the website - you go about your normal shopping, and raise money for a life saving cause in the process. I totally understand you want to know the charity is worthwhile - but you couldn't even be bothered to work out that I am not asking for you to personally give me money.
Looks like I'll be shopping online now ~
Aha thanks very much :)
---
One last thing, the money gets transferred by BAC's to the charity - meaning I literally never touch the money :)
It's not about how much it costs me, though. It's effort. I know it's mininmal but if the charity is worth donating and spending time towards then obviously I'll go out of my way to help.
I'd like a background and mission statement, not just "I donate to this charity, you should too!". I'd rather donate to cancer research UK, having experienced the work that this particular charity does first hand.

If you say that peoples pockets are tight, of course you were talking about how much it costs you!
Mission Statement:
To work with people to improve the living conditions and quality of life of individuals, families, and the community at large by providing access to varied services to needy people; irrespective of genders, castes and faiths.
RUSS FOUNDATION is a charity, registered as a non-profit organization under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act in India. Since its inception in the year 1992, it has developed into a dynamic organization with a history of bringing vital changes in the community it serves. Russ Foundation concentrates its developmental efforts at the grass-root level in sectors like Health, HIV/AIDS, Education, Socio-economic development, Life-skill Vocational Training and Ecology.
Russ Foundation is focused to create sustainable and culturally relevant solutions by enabling communities to break the longstanding obstacles for their development. The primary object of Russ Foundation is to improve the quality of life of the children, women and the community at large.
To be honest, if you were actually interested, I imagine you would have gone to the website for the charity using the provided link, which has exactly what you wanted :)

I shouldn't have to, you're trying to garner my interest, remember. My money goes to a charity already and you're trying to get me to donate to yours so I need to see as much material as possible to garner my interest. And by my, I mean your target audience. I am just one man.
My money can be split between charities and have recently been thinking about doing it so it's nice to get a perspective of what's out there that is genuine.
I couldn't access your page because I had to create an account, something I'm not willing to do if I have no reason to use that account.

I don't understand why you're making such an issue out of this, being an idiot for the sake of being an idiot. The time you're spending writing out these petty arguments you could've done abit of research yourself if you were really that arsed, or you could just sign up and do abit of shopping.
Marketing; I would do this, but i'm going India at the end of the month and our project has our own easyfundraising page, but good luck and I hope you reach your target!

Thanks :)

This is definitely odd. I'm afraid there isn't really much I can say - have you tried a password reset to see what is says? Do you have an email address that someone could type randomly (eg. people type in
[email protected] or something when signing up to things).
Sorry I cannot offer more help :(

Hello :)
Thanks very much! A few pence is definitely worth something. Below are a few prices in the local area, to give you an idea of what money can buy.
Bottle of Water (1.5l) - 25 rupees (or about 31 pence)
Meal (curry) - 75 rupees (unlimited refills on that) - 92p
Bottle of Coke (glass) - 30 rupees - 37p
Used examples of things that would be understandable to people in the UK haha
Thanks :)
----
A big thanks to Abbie for raising 70p for the cause, and an anonymous user on here for raising a further 7p. I honestly cannot express how much it means (please contact me guys!)

Hey,
We're doing abit of touristy stuff, so we'll be going to New Delhi, Agra and Amritsa, and for a week we'll be in Dharamasala on project in a primary school; where we're pretty much only teaching, but may be helping renovate the school a little bit, and we're taking over loads of equipment with us to leave behind so hopefully they'll be set up for the next trip :)

Nice :) I will have the pleasure of seeing the rest of India next year (well 9 months 8 days!!) Let me know what your thoughts of your three destinations are on return, would love to hear about it. In regards to equipment, what sort of stuff are you bringing out? Don't bother with anything you think you can get in India, as it will be far cheaper haha (when I next go, I won't bother buying much at all in the UK).

I'll be ordering lots of hotel and coach tickets in a couple of days also some stuff from jacamo and amazon, thanks for telling me about this. I will go through your support page :)

Ah of course, didn't even think about donations haha Where I went, the younger children enjoyed torches just as much as anything else haha (in Tamil Nadu there are fairly widespread power cuts ;)). Fantastic donation though re. pencils. When you are there, ensure you try a lassi - Sweet is the best in my opinion!

http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/find-and-remind/ is quite a useful tool, which puts a yellow bar at the top of the shopping page reminding you about EasyFundraising - it used to give 50p to supporters of the cause on install, but that appears to have stopped now :(

I am currently another Anonymous. They used to send the money by check (obviously wasn't payable to me). My fundraising total is negative - basically there was a check which I gave to my Sixth Form months ago, but they couldn't find it. The check was £27.99, so they then sent out another one - which I gave in. Annoyingly, my Sixth Form ended up paying in both checks - so EasyFundraising took £27.99 back off my fundraising total (meaning it was obviously positive beforehand) as I am the creator of the cause. And that is how it gets to £10 less. No money has actually been lost - as EasyFundraising gave £27.99 more than they should have in one month :) Therefore, on my total it is down as " Adjustment £-27.99". Hopefully that explains it!
EDIT: TO clear it up, they use BACS now, as opposed to Cheque meaning there are no more issues haha

Would be awesome if you do - the cause really is ongoing (a child doesn't simply stop needing support).
On the note of Scotland, have fun turning into an ice cube :L (University?)

Yeah, I think it's a really nice cause, and it's good that you don't actually pay anything for it, mainly for people who do lots of shopping online, like I sometimes do.
And thank you (lol), yep Queen Margaret, West Scotland or Napier. :P

Yeah that is what I love about it - I don't need to ask people to really do anything they wouldn't normally do. I recognise that the economic conditions at the moment are shocking - but if you are going to buy something, why not help a cause out while you're at it? :)
Good luck at University in Scotland - whichever one you choose!

You are not donating your own money, you are simply helping a good cause by shopping online. Just because someone is asking you to support a charity if you want doesn't mean you can act like the king of the world and feel all special that you can ask anything you want and behave however you want.
OMGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ YOUR LINKK IN YOUR SIGNATURE DOESN'T GIMME DETAILZZZZZ ABOUT WAT IT IZ, PLEASE EITHA PUT INFO UNDERNEATH IT OR REMOVE IT RATHER THAN TRYING TO SEEK MY ATTENTION.
Absolute idiots, some people in this country throw away free education and look at it as a chore while others in poor countries would give anything to be educated. People like you irritate me by acting like a annoying child with little common sense.
Good on the thread starter for believing in a cause and trying to help them. I am definitely going to use it when I next shop on eBay or Amazon.
