The country's vice-president has just announced Chavez's death.

This has literally only just been reported 5 minutes ago so I'll get the article when it is published.

RIP Chavez

Edit ~~~~~~~~~~~

Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has died, his vice-president has announced.
Mr Chavez had not appeared in public since he returned to Venezuela last month after cancer treatment in Cuba.
An emotional Nicolas Maduro made the announcement on Tuesday evening, flanked by leading Venezuelan political and military leaders.
Earlier, he said the 58-year-old Venezuelan leader had a new, severe respiratory infection and had entered "his most difficult hours".

He was in the news a lot recently. It did seem like he was suffering too much. 58 is not an old age :/

I wasn't one for his disasterous economic policies and I don't think his Government was very nice either, with reports of electoral fraud and other threatening and thuggish acts being reported from inside the country. That said, I wouldn't wish death on somebody who doesn't appear to have blood on their hands (unlike Mr. Castro and Mr. Mugabe) and I rather do admire the way he stood up to western foreign policy in regards to bombing countries like Iraq and Libya.

Hopefully Latin America will shrug off socialism now that the cheerleader has gone, and implement a Chile-styled economic revivial.
