A lion has killed a volunteer at a big cat sanctuary in California after the worker climbed into the animal's cage.Dianna Hanson, 26, was attacked inside an enclosure at Cat Haven (http://www.cathaven.com/default.aspx) in Dunlap by an African lion which had been raised at the park since it was a cub.
Another park worker tried unsuccessfully to lure the lion - a four-year-old male named Cous Cous - into a separate pen.
The animal was shot and killed by a sheriff's deputy, California Department of Fish and Wildlife spokesman Lt Tony Spada said.
Paul Hanson, a Seattle-area attorney, identified the victim as his daughter.
"She was very excited," he said. "It was just a dream job for her."

RIP her.

But what was she doing in the pen with a lion. I mean, no.

I'm questioning why they then decided to shoot it. What exactly is that meant to achieve? They already knew it was a dangerous animal.

Killing the lion was wrong.

They are predatory mammals, of course they will kill a human if they can - perhaps the zoo should sort out its safety measures instead.

Uh, the killing of the lion was ridiculous. Awful shame for the girl, but honestly, it's not unexpected behaviour from a lion. Sad to hear that it was her dream job too.

At least she died doing something she loved. I agree though that the lion shouldn't have been shot.. it's the animals instinct to kill.

They have protocols for escaped animals, which obviously involved killing it in this case.

It may have been in it's containment cage but it was still in the enclosure. Hardly a danger to the general public.

Did they shoot it while it was attacking her or after?
Rip to her!
