Is Hunter Moore (Is Anyone Up) a good or bad person?

Recently Hunter Moore has been ordered by a court to pay a fine for sending abusive messages to an anti bullying charity owner who bought the Is Anyone Up website from him.

Basically Is Anyone Up was a revenge porn website, the idea being that people could post pictures, videos etc. of their ex's. As well as posting media, the uploader also would post social links of the ex e.g. their facebook profile, twitter etc. The idea started between Hunter Moore and some friends after they all apparently had their hearts broken.

Hunter Moore apparently closed the website due to the massive amount of underage material that was submitted, which he had to sit through and report to the police. He has always claimed that he was never in the wrong and that the people who took the stuff should never have taken the stuff in the first place. Basically in his opinion it was their own fault and these are basically the consequences of their actions.

So do you think that Hunter Moore is a good or bad person, or more relevant, do you think that he is to blame?

I agree that the person did take a risk taking the material but at the end of the day it would have been done under the false pretense of trust and I do think that trust should have been respected. I then think that Hunter Moore is no angel by then giving this person an outlet to show off the media to the public. He has said that if he hadn't done it then someone else would have but as they say two wrongs don't make a right.

It seems to be however a lot of people are supportive of Hunter Moore. So I am curious to find out what the people of Habbox think.

But does that make him right though. I obviously know there's much worse, but if for example I black mailed someone - should I be able to get off by basically saying but I didn't kill a million jews or do this or that. I feel too many people think the internet is a place where they can do anything without the consequences. I bet if this was something happening offline it would be worse.

Doesn't make it right that it does, but it doesn't put the charming Mr. Moore in the wrong.
You could say that he should be responsible for the content on his site, but in setting up a medium in which people can post on the internet it is of a fairly uncontrollable nature. Now it's been closed, I don't think it's worth the effort pursuing anymore.

I just don't get why he is worshipped by a load of people and girls seem to fancy him, seriously?

He said in an interview his intention wasn't to hurt anyone but that is a massive lie as originally he set the site up to just do that, to get back at someone who apparently broke his heart, left him or whatever. My opinion is that by doing what he's done though he's if anything simply proved the ex she was right to leave him.

I'm not trying to say he's evil, but it is debatable that he is morally wrong. At the end of the day he created a website that was used to hurt peoples lives. I could imagine that some people would have considered actual suicide due to these pictures. Yeah we can say that these pictures shouldn't have been taken in the first place, but that doesn't mean that others should simply spread them all over the world and then to make things even worse link these pictures to all the users social networks e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc.

As I said it just seems people think because they can change their name online, they can also do anything. At the end of the day if your going to do something like this you should understand the possible consequences, why it would look bad to people, why it could hurt people and do actual serious damage. By not understanding this it really makes the guy look bad. I also wouldn't be surprised if he had problems finding a decent partner because I'm sure if he did meet a decent girl she'd probably find it hard to trust him.

Oh and charming? I thought charming where people who where actually nice. I'm also sure that uploading nudes like this with the attention to hurt people can actually be classed as cyber bullying among other things.

I don't understand the "it's only the internet!" argument. By that flawed logic it suggests that showing yourself to someone in the flesh means everyone is then allowed to have a look against your will, and by posting a personal letter with a return address everyone is free to live in your house. The fact of the matter is that he hosted personal information about people without their permission, and that's illegal. It doesn't matter if the people in question had done something to "deserve" it (as though breaking up with someone warrants harassment and defaming) it's an illegal act and he quite clearly ought to be punished for it, however nice he might come across in person.

Should never give out other peoples' details no matter what they've 'done'. Still, doesn't mean he should be prosecuted.
