View Full Version : Do all fansites fake their statistics?

Although this is the only fansite I regularly visit I saw Habbo updated their fansite list. I went on some of these pages and noticed that some fake their statistics, especially plug-ins such as "Top daily posters" "Members online". Of course, I understand why - the more active you look, the better you look. I have counted through some of Habbox's statistics and don't see any irregularities.

So - it says they have 143 members on but there are only 93 names there.
I looked on vBulletin and found plug ins that can do this:

I was just wondering, if all fansites fake their members?
I won't name this fansite, although some might recognise it, just to show you what I mean.
Inseriousity.

I think it's quite common. For example, I've seen evidence before that shows that some fansites fake their radio stats and we are actually beating them even though the numbers make it look like they're hugely in front. As far as I know, Habbox has never resorted to this.

There's also hidden members you can't see as well as spiders from search engines.

When I was Site Manager at HabbCrazy we faked them then, but i disabled them, they they enabled them for up to 80 hours or something similar, so past 3-4 days

Go on the site at any time of the day and there will always be +50. Never 49, never 27. Always 50. It's definitely a plugin.

That's cause there is 50 online at the moment. You just can't see them all where as I can.

I'm not on about Habbox.

While i think using plugins to make your site appear more popular is quite dumb, there's nothing in the rules for official fansites that says that it isn't allowed.

Shouldn't be a rule, its easy enough to notice. If a site can lie about that, what else could they be lying about :o
Everyone knows there are a few fansites out there that are well known for their fake stats, not just with forums but with the radio's also
like for example 'Stream is up at 128 kbps with 41 of 2013 listeners (35 unique)'. its not as bad at this site as it usually i, but still.
There is a plugin for everything these days on VB or MyBB which will hide truth from any site.

Radios are the worst IMO. They make their stats look great by showing overall listeners instead of unique ones and they get their listeners to load the radio on like 10 different pages to make themselves look good.

Over at HFFM Forum, we exposed this ages ago just like you with a word count, the fansite faking their users in the picture is ThisHabbo Forum. They usually have 20-30 fake users all the time, depending on time of day etc. that's ThisHabbo for you.

They arent fake users, they just make the expire date later on the timer :P

It's just one of these things that certain sites might have to make themselves look any better than other fansites.
Don't think it's right, but each fansite have different management with different ideas. :P

No, they still fake them anyways. You only get logged out after 4 hours idle on their forum.

It was longer than that back when I was around, was like 48 hours :P
Think its quite common. I know thishabbo and hffm have both faked their listeners, because a friend who djed there sent me the shoutcast statistics.

you can't see everyone
a lot of people especially on habboxforum use invisible
so if you look at the forum stats you might see 30 members online at 2am where as only 23 show on the online list

I would stab myself in the ears before listening to anything at 128 kbps.

If you knew anything, HFFM don't fake their listeners. It's called CloudFlare, it messes with the unique listeners.

This.
Google is almost always active on my forum.

To my understanding HFFM doesn't fake its statistics, not on the forum, radio or site.
We legitimately get 3000 posts in one day on good days.
No, it really isn't.
The dj told me they did and sent the shoutcast admin... lmao Accipiter; This was long before tryhabbo merged with hffm and it was just the radio statistics.

Since we've merged I don't believe they've had any reason to fake statistics, we have some fab dj's like bot (ross) who causes such a good audience

The only way Habbox 'fakes' stats, although its not really faking at all, is that some users stay permanently on the online list even when they are not online due to a bug which I think is to do with tapatalk keeping them logged in :P like at 5am in the morning there are quite a few people on the online list that logged off hours ago/yesterday etc :P I don't think its fixable though unfortunately :(

Thats a bug tapatalk's end, thus will be thousands of sites having same problem
At habbos.net/habboing.com we used to extend the users online 'timeout' to slightly improve online numbers during quiet times. I'm 100% sure other websites are doing the same and even just faking stats. This is something that actually happens on websites for RL businesses across the world.
