Ok so I've been wondering is it just me, or not, I don't know why but I've realised how much I eat and eat when I'm bored. To be honest yes I can just eat and eat and eat. But I've noticed I don't exactly seem to gain weight, and I don't know why.?.

is this only me or does it happen to anyone else and why?

Only thing I can think off the top of my head is if you have a ....high/fast (?) metabolism. People with struggle gaining weight because their body uses energy much quicker and burns more calories. (?)Or maybe you simply do more exercise than you think? If you say "oh I only walk for an hour it's not that much" that's still quite a few calories burned.

But yeah I'm sorta the same, I've def. eaten a lot more than I used to but my weight hasn't changed at all - then again I do walk for several hours per day :P

Oh yeah and I boredom eat loads, had my nan saying to me for years that I'm never that hungry, just bored and then realised like 2 months ago how correct she was.

i don't gain weight. my aunties are all very slim and my mum was too but once she had kids she put on a lot of weight on the bottom half, hopefully i don't go the same way.
also, when im with my friends and i see the portions they eat it's like twice the size of what i eat :S so that may be the reason too? i've always ate small portions since i was young but thought it was normal but compared to my friends i eat small portions.
then again i have a slim friend who eats big portions and junk food but doesn't put on weight
so yeah GENETICS probably, look at the females in your fam

You're so lucky, I wish I was like that then I wouldn't have to watch what I eat :( But yeah a lot of people do that, me being one of them although I've cut back a lot lately.

Yeah I'd say that you have a high metabolism (I think its high anyway)I know many people like this, so its nothing to worry aboutt;3Consider yourself lucky haha. Recently I've been putting on the weight more easily unfortunately sooo hardly anything is eaten anymore.

Metabolism is actually a pretty interesting thing and there's a lot of myths about it, like slow metabolism is a reason fat people often give for being overweight although somewhat true I believe.

I don't think there are huge differences in metabolisms. I've always been pretty slim and ate what I wanted when I wanted. However to gain weight you need to consume more calories than your body uses. I always claimed that I ate loads, but really when I counted everything that I'd eat in a normal day it was around 2000, less than the RDA and certainly not enough to put any weight on. It seemed like I was eating lots, but really I wasn't. So me putting the non weight gain as being down to metabloism (although true to some extent) was most likely wrong as I just wasn't eating enough in the first place.

However you should watch what you eat a little. Junk foods are obviously not good for you especially in excess which is probably what you're eating. No one wants to die early from heart problems etc.

**** a half helpful post, this is new.

I seem to gain weight so easily! I'm off sugar for lent, not even replacing it with anything, just eating my normal meals and I still seem to be gaining weight...

I smoke when I'm bored, less calories.

Sugar usually isn't a bit problem unless you eat it by the tonne. Instead of focusing on sugar, I'd focus on your calorie intake. That is usually where the problem lies.

For lots of people who were addicted for sugar and then "give it up" (although giving up sugar is close to impossible as it's in all sorts of things), often find themselves really tired all the time because they were on a constant sugar rush before. Because they're tired, they choose to eat more or replace it with things like carbs, which are just as bad as sugar if you have too much. This is probably what you're doing.

All of this is dead on. Real cases of 'fast' and 'slow' metabolism makes about a 200 calorie difference either way which is extremely little (that's less than what you'd find in a large glass of milk). Anyone claiming they are overweight because of a slow metabolism and accordingly anyone claiming to be underweight because of a fast metabolism is talking out their arse.

That's genuinely quite interesting haha. Guess it's just another thing that seems to be over-exaggerated in the media :P? (And that silly people fall for i.e me).
