Russia has warned of tensions in North Korea slipping out of control, after Pyongyang said it was placing its missile units on stand-by.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the situation could slip "toward the spiral of a vicious circle".
Kim Jong-un made the missile order after talks responding to US stealth bomber flights over the Korean peninsula, state news agency KCNA said.
The time had come to "settle accounts" with the US, KCNA quoted him as saying.
Annual military drills and fresh UN sanctions have angered North Korea.
After a late-night meeting with the army's strategic rocket force, Kim Jong-un "judged the time has come to settle accounts with the US imperialists", KCNA reported.
He was said to have condemned US B-2 bomber sorties over South Korea as a "reckless phase" that represented an "ultimatum that they will ignite a nuclear war at any cost on the Korean Peninsula".
US mainland and bases in Hawaii, Guam and South Korea were all named as potential targets.
The US - which flew two stealth bombers over the peninsula on Thursday as part of the ongoing annual US-South Korea military drills - has said it is ready for "any eventuality" on the peninsula.
Thousands of North Korean soldiers and students later took part in a mass rally in the centre of Pyongyang in support of Kim Jong-un's announcement, beneath large portraits of his father Kim Jong-il and grandfather Kim Il-sung.
A South Korean defence ministry spokesman described the North Korean decision as a "continuing measure", after its announcement to adopt "combat posture".

They've scrapped the peace agreement like six times before, until bullets are fired it means nothing.

North Korea has announced that it will no longer abide by the armistice at least 6 times, in the years 1994, 1996, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2013.

I'm not going to lie here... How ******* ******ed can america get? We know that the stealth bomber can carry nuclear warheads, so they get pissed when Korea threaten them, yet that is practically the same thing they've just done back by flying the bomber over them... smh!

Was reading about this the other day. The bit where it said 'The korean peninsula is no longer in a state of neither peace nor war is over' I just started laughing at.
This isn't entirely a non-issue. If DPRK do something we'll have to wait for China to decide what they want before anyone can do anything about it.

I like to think that North Korea is the the angry drunk guy because his wife and family are leaving and China is his sober friend trying to calm him down in the corner.

I wouldn't. Last time the Americans tried to fix this the chinese were giving the Koreans more booze. (aka the chinese gave DPRK a bunch of MiGs).

But they forgot to give the fuel for those MiGs, damn them!
Negotiations have opened regarding the exchange of American dogs for Korean Nuclear Weapons.
It's all just rhetoric, if you follow this stuff, you will know they heighten the rhetoric every now and again. The media as always is trying to sensationalize this story to what it's not.
What I find most interesting is the change in rhetoric from China; now this could be for a few reasons, one being that they want to be respected behind an international table and being so aligned to North Korea does anything but that.

Let's see if they fire any eh?

They won't do anything though. This is like the fifth time they declare war on South Korea. Nothing happened in any of the other times and it will most likely (and hopefully) not happen now. The only difference is that now, media is making it look way worse than it actually is.

Pentagon sends missile defences to Guam as North Korea 'approves nuclear attack on US'
The Pentagon has announced that it is sending an advanced ballistic missile defence system to Guam, as North Korea ramped up its bellicose rhetoric with the announcement that it has given final approval for a nuclear attack on the US.
The General Staff of the Korean People's Army said it was formally informing Washington that US threats would be "smashed by... cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means".
"The merciless operation of (our) revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified," the statement, carried by the state news agency and reported by South Korean news agency Yonhap, said.
The Korean statement came as US defence secretary Chuck Hagel warned of a "real and clear" danger from North Korea.
“Some of the actions they’ve taken over the last few weeks, present a real and clear danger,” Mr Hagel told an audience at the National Defense University in Washington.

I'm sitting here patiently waiting for DPRK to understand MAD, this is getting real silly now.
N.Korea, nuclear war... Death to them. Good luck chaps!

Is the US putting in place the defense system in Guam as they think there's a genuine threat? Or is it flex some muscles?

Guam's actually within range of DPRK's shorter range (And more reliable) missiles, it's theoretically possible that DPRK has been masking just how advanced they are and they might have a short range weaponised nuclear device. Of course why they'd fire it at Guam beggar's belief, since they'd do virtually no damage and open themselves up to a broadside of US Bombing Runs.

The situation in North Korea is really saddening.
I urge everyone to watch this TED talk:

This video just makes me want to get everyone together and just invade. The sad thing is that North Korea has it's allies which makes things confusing.
If anyone has watched the new GI Joe film, the nuke part of it is actually quite interesting.

oh right, isn't there a military base at Guam? Could that be the reason..

There is, but I'm not convinced that "1 down several thousand more to go" is the right attitude for DPRK to use in their situation.

http://news.sky.com/story/1073563/north-korea-army-war-could-break-out-today
The North Korean military says it has ratified a "merciless" attack against the United States, potentially involving a "cutting-edge" nuclear strike.
"The moment of explosion is approaching fast," the army said in a statement on state news agency KCNA.
War could break out "today or tomorrow", the statement said, quoting a spokesman for the General Staff of the Korean People's Army.
"The merciless operation of (our) revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been finally examined and ratified.
"The US had better ponder over the prevailing grave situation."
More threats from North Korea

They've moved missiles to their east coast which can reach 4,000km.
