Only the uneducated (read: northerners) think that grass should be pronounced with a short a "because that's how it's spelt". If that was how language worked and only short vowels existed then good luck with the word language itself

Some people, mostly Americans pronounce Erin and Aaron the same. I get so annoyed when either name is used in a US TV show.

Kinda reminds me one year at school the names on the roll went Erin, Aaron, Aria or something and the sub teacher pronounced them all the same we were just like 'yeah we're all here'.

It is aitch, and I know it seems weird because of it being... H... , but it just is aitch. I think it's much more common among young people to say haytch though;

"British English dictionaries give aytch as the standard pronunciation for the letter H.... Haytch is a standard pronunciation in Irish English and is increasingly being used by native English-speaking people all across the country, irrespective of geographical provenance or social standing. Polls have shown that the uptake of haytch by younger native speakers is on the rise. "

im Scottish and our education system must be crap cause they've never emphasised that its pronounced without a H. tbh no1 up in my area gives a **** how u pronounce words as long as it's understandable nor do we use big words in everyday conversation. may be the reason why my vocabulary is so poor AND I CAN'T DO BIG WORDS ON SCRABBLE :(

i drop t's too such as in fourteen. Also why do people pronounce butter like buttah? meh idc pronouncation doesn't bother me. any big or complex words ive learnt is through reading books out with school. if someone corrected my pronunciation that would piss me off more than someone else pronouncing it 'wrongly'.

we need another one of those accent and pronunciation threads with all these words lol (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=746252&highlight=Accent)

I can't really recall my school emphasising it being aitch either. I have either forgotten or I guess they are just giving up because haytch has become much more common, I only found out it was incorrect when a friend told me :P

That's actually interesting to read because my mother has a pharmacy, and I've heard many people say that name and whenever anyone says it here in Portugal, we say 'Para-set-a-mol'. :P

For me it'd be people not being able to say my name correctly since it's a portuguese one that just doesn't exist the same way in English.
