Seen this on the news earlier.

'Traditional British social divisions of upper, middle and working class seem out of date in the 21st Century, no longer reflecting modern occupations or lifestyles.

The BBC teamed up with sociologists from leading universities to analyse the modern British class system. They surveyed more than 161,000 people and came up with a new model made up of seven groups.'

I have mixed opinions on social class systems, I don't like the stereotypes it brings with each class but i do like the way it is used in government (e.g taxes - working class: lesser taxes, upper class: upper taxes etc and the use of benefits).

Heres a quick calculator thing BBC had posted to get your results on the new class system: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22000973
Also there is the original research test here: https://ssl.bbc.co.uk/labuk/experiments/class/

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Quick Test was:

Emergent service workers

This class group is financially insecure, scoring low for savings and house value, but high for social and cultural factors. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:

- Are young
- Enjoy a cultured social life
- Rent their home - almost 90%

My experiment results were:

You scored 60/100 for economic capital
Your financial resources are about the same as the average person in the UK. Find out more below.

You scored 100/100 for social capital
Your social network is wider than the average person in the UK. Find out more below.

You scored 100/100 for cultural capital
Your range of cultural interests is broader than the average person in the UK. Find out more below.

I think its quite an interesting subject, as the class system has been labelled down in history for centuries.

I ticked Chief executive on people you know socially because I spoke to paul lafontaine on twitter :)

Established middle class, apparently. Interesting how they've incorporated sociocultural factors as well as the traditional economic :O It's not exactly accurate though since I'm in a different class to my family and if I edit the financial stuff to me personally then I'm traditional working class.

I think i did the same actually :$. Yeah, it is really interesting. I like this new class system, but its a lot simpler with the standard 3

Established Middle Class although the part where you tick what kind of people you socialise with, I didn't know to what degree it means lol.

My family did this yesterday and my mum/stepdad got new affluent workers but I got established middle class which is like 2 stages different or something, the whole thing is pretty ridiculous though since it basically equates having a wide taste in music to being a lord

tech middle is where all the cool people hang out.

It's a bit silly anyway. It doesn't ask which supermarket you shop at or which newspaper you read.

Without using that stupid thing, I'm the lowest I guess.

All my family work, I work, live with parents. Knowing people doesn't mean you are that person.

I am an established middle class lol. Found it hard to answer to the money-related questions as I'm only 16, though.

I imagine everyone here is answering based on their households (ie parents) income. Otherwise we would all be paupers.

Yeah, that's what I did. But I had to guess for some of it because it would be a bit awkward to just ask them for their annual income and stuff :L
