Hey all
I'm looking for advice from the great technological wizards inhabiting this land (again, maybe?)
I want to start up a blog on a domain I own privately (www.mysite.co.uk style of domain) rather than on one which ends up as something.blogsite.com.
How do I go about making this happen? And where would you recommend registering a .co.uk domain for cheaper than £5 a year. If that's the best price, however, I'll stick with it :)

Most importantly, would I have to code or work with the internal settings of the website in order to get it working? If that is the case, I suppose I'm also looking for somebody to get that set up for me xD

Many thanks in advance,
Your resident mariah carey addict

Hi -

1) Get your domain name from http://www.namecheap.com/domains/domain-name-search.aspx

2) Sign up to your blog service.

3) Setup the custom domain name, you'll need to add CNAME or A records as outlined in the respective articles:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
http://support.google.com/blogger/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1233381&page=ts.cs
http://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/custom_domains

Most importantly, would I have to code or work with the internal settings of the website in order to get it working? If that is the case, I suppose I'm also looking for somebody to get that set up for me xD

Most blog services are very point-and-click. They're designed for novice users -- you can use them as basic or advanced as you like.

Good luck :)

I suggest you buy a £6 domain and monthly hosting from zFast.co.uk. Then you can install Wordpress and its very easy and customisable. My two sites use wordpress, you can see them in my sig. If you do chose this option I'll be happy to help you.

Domain: £6 a year (You can find another website and nameserver it, but this is easier)
Hosting: £1.50 a month

Register a blog with Wordpress.com and use their custom domains system. It's really easy to setup and wordpress is highly configurable/customisable.

I've gone through zFast, and during the signup section, it asks me if I'd like free ID Protection and DNS Management. What are these and should I use them xD?
Thanks to all for your suggestions, too.

ID Protection I believe hides your name and address in whois records which you want. DNS management allows you to set DNS records which you will likely require. Zfast says they're both free so get both.

You can get the WordPress Hosting service from TheWebPole.com (http://www.thewebpole.com/wordpress-web-hosting/) for £1.88 /month . You can easily create, update, and manage your own blog with it. You don't need any help form other ,with a few clicks you will be ready to host your Blog.
As for the .co.uk domain name I registered a .co.uk domain name for $6.00(3.90£) / year through 9CubeHosting.com (http://www.9cubehosting.com/cheap_domains/) .
