I have no idea how ram and stuff works :L But I know that you can buy upto 4 in my computer. I have 2 atm (2gb each) if I buy another 1/2 do they have to be 2gb or can they be more? (I'm paranoid :s)+Rep

You can use a combination of different size sticks.

What kind of Mac have you got? Depends how many slots you have as to whether buying another stick of that size is any use.

You can add any size sticks though some argue that for example the bottom two should match. So in your case
2GB 2GB
1GB 1GB
or
2GB 2GB
2GB 2GB
