Hi

I'm looking for some opinions on whether or not it's worth jailbreaking an iPhone, you know, for free stuff and that.

Any mega downsides (apart from nullifying my warranty) that I should be aware of?

Cheers :)

Connect to iTunes, restore the phone and Apple cannot tell if you were jailbroken = no voided warranty.

And there are some awesome apps available via Cydia that can really improve the iPhone experience, IMO you jailbreak to improve the phone, no to pirate software.

Cheers for that +rep

To restore the phone do I just sync it pre-jailbreak?

Depends on whether or not you want the features only achievable via jailbreaking. Personally, I have no need to. Others do because they want apps from Cydia...

Take a full backup (via iTunes) before jailbreaking. Restore from iTunes backup if needed.

Encrypt your backup with a password too, please (good practice).

I think it's fun to jailbreak a phone especially if it's an older version. I have an iPod that I don't use anymore, I jailbroke it, and it was pretty fun.

In that case, try a yo-yo.

on topic: if you jailbreak for fun, then you have too much time on your hands, last time I jailbroke it took me 3 day on and off to finally finish it and get it running, with the correct baseband etc (Back in iOS4 days.)

I did jailbreak with Evasi0n the other week, it worked fine, easy to do, restored the iPad a bit later on, I couldn't find anything to make it worth it, the old Jailbreak tweaks made iOS better, but now iOS has a lot of them tweeks added, there is a lot of nice stuff for iPhones however.
